Xfire heeft gisteren zijn gelijknamige chatprogramma voorzien van een update naar versie 1.84. Xfire is met name bedoeld voor de fanatieke gamers. Het is namelijk mogelijk om zowel binnen als buiten spellen worden te chatten in tekst en spraak. Verder worden er allerhande statistieken bijgehouden van de prestaties in verschillende spellen, is te zien welke spellen de mensen op je contactlijst op dat moment spelen en zijn gamepatches en demo's via een eigen p2p-netwerk binnen te halen. Op dit moment worden er iets meer dan duizend spellen ondersteund, waarvan er 175 de zogenaamde 'one-click join' en ruim 500 'in-game chat' ondersteunen. het changelog van deze release laat de volgende veranderingen zien:
