Apple heeft voor de nieuwe reeks iMacs een software-update beschikbaar gesteld. De update kan hier als dmg-bestand gedownload worden en is alleen bedoeld voor de iMac-computers die Mac OS X 10.4 'Tiger' draaien. Volgens het changelog lost deze Software Update problemen op met het installeren van Mac OS X Leopard. Daarnaast worden ook de performance en betrouwbaarheid voor 'grafisch intensieve games en applicaties' verbeterd. De volledige release notes van iMac Software Update 1.2.1 zien er als volgt uit:
