REAL SQL Server is gebaseerd op SQLite, een in C ontwikkeld databasesysteem dat gebruikt kan worden als database voor onder andere websites en embedded applicaties. Applicaties die ontwikkeld worden in REALbasic konden al gebruikmaken van een single-user database, maar met REAL SQL Server wordt het mogelijk om deze applicaties geschikt te maken voor multi-user omgevingen. REAL Software heeft onlangs REAL SQL Server 2007 uitgebracht met de volgende aankondiging:

- Encryption: REAL SQL Server supports AES256 encryption on the database file. This level of encryption has been approved by the U.S. National Security Agency for the protection of classified information.
- New Clients: REAL SQL Server now offers ODBC, PHP and C clients, making REAL SQL Server accessible from other database tools, reporting tools and web interfaces.
- Multi-core Support: REAL SQL Server takes advantage of all available processors, providing greater scalability for large databases.
REAL SQL Server Developer Edition is a full-featured version of REAL SQL Server intended for use by application developers. The Developer Edition is available at no cost, enabling developers to create database-aware applications with minimal investment.
