Driver-update: ATi Catalyst 7.9 final

ATi heeft zojuist een nieuwe reeks van Catalyst-drivers beschikbaar gesteld. Het gaat deze keer om versie 7.9, die vanaf deze pagina gedownload kan worden voor Windows XP (35,4MB), Windows XP x64 (51,5MB), Windows XP Media Center Edition (35,4MB), Windows Vista (37,5MB) en Windows Vista x64 (48,2MB). In versie 7.9 hebben de ontwikkelaars naast de gebruikelijke bugfixes voor applicaties ook ondersteuning toegevoegd voor de demo van Enemy Territory: Quake Wars en verbeteringen doorgevoerd voor BioShock en World Of Warcraft. Avivo Video Converter for Windows Vista (64-bit)
    This release of Catalyst™ introduces the Avivo Video Converter for the Windows Vista (64 bit) operating system. The Avivo Video Converter is a transcoder tool that provides a quick and easy way of converting videos from one format to another. The Avivo Video Converter found within the Catalyst™ Control Center, allows the user to select the input file, and output format, along with the quality level and file location. The Avivo. Video Converter accepts a wide variety of file formats as a source, and outputs to file formats such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4/DivX, WMA, H.264/AVC and more.
Catalyst Control Center: Color Temperature Control
    This release of Catalyst™ introduces Color Temperature Control within the Catalyst Control Center, allowing users to adjust the chromatic level shown on their display. Supported on the ATI Radeon™ X1000 Series and Radeon™ HD 2000 Series of products. Performance Improvements
The following performance improvements are noticed with Catalyst™ 7.9:
  • Far Cry performance improves up to 14 % on the ATI Radeon™ HD2900XT CrossFire™, ATI Radeon™ HD2600XT single card, and ATI Radeon™ HD2400XT CrossFire™ configurations
  • Call of Duty 2 performance improves as much as 12% with Anti-Aliasing enabled on the ATI Radeon™ HD2600XT CrossFire™ and single card configurations
  • Half-Life 2: Episode 1 performance improves at most 9% on ATI Radeon™ HD2600XT CrossFire™ and as much as 6% on the ATI Radeon™ HD2400XT CrossFire™ configurations.
  • Serious Sam 2 performance improves up to 46% on the ATI Radeon™ HD2400XT CrossFire™ and up to 27% on the ATI Radeon™ HD2600XT single card and CrossFire™ configurations with Anti-Aliasing enabled.
  • Quake 4 performance with Anti-Aliasing improves 9% or more on the ATI Radeon™ X1600/X1650Pro and ATI Radeon™ X1300/X1550 products in both single and CrossFire™ configurations

Bioshock werkt niet met 7.9 op XP, mijn driver was eerst 7.7, want 7.8 liep ook niet geheel vlekkeloos met mijn X1950GT (zacht uitgedrukt). Bioshock werkte dus prima met 7.7, maar toen ik 7.9 had geinstalleerd, gaf hij zo'n gebruikelijke Windows-error (send, don't send etc.). Ik heb een herinstallatie van Bioshock geprobeerd, maar dat leverde niks op :'(
Iemand (nu al) ervaring met dit probleem?
Update: Driver rollback gedaan (naar 7.7) en Bioshock werkt weer! Het ligt dus wel degelijk aan de nieuwe drivers van Ati.

Ati adviseert om driver 7.7 te gebruiken voor AGP kaarten. 7.8 en 7.9 zijn niet stabiel met AGP kaarten. Kan de link niet direct vinden.
Ah, vandaar dat ik een BSOD kreeg na installatie van 7.9... Een 'inifinite loop' in ati2dvag.dll.

Snel maar weer 7.7 geinstalleerd.

Heb ook problemen met de 7.8 versie en terug gegaan naar 7.7. Had toch gehoopt dat ze in 7.9 de problemen opgelost hadden, maar is blijkbaar alleen maar erger geworden. Zal ze vanavond eens proberen en kijken of bioshock nog werkt.

Oh ja ik heb een X1950Pro AGP.

Ik heb de 7.9 drivers toch maar geinstalleerd en ze werken uitstekend. Tot nu toe geen problemen. Bioshock draait ook perfect. Allemaal heel erg gek.

Deze driver is btw alleen voor Windows XP, Vista users moeten de Mobility Modder (http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/) gebruiken ;)
Of even wachten tot hun laptopfabrikant zijn nieuwe drivers online heeft gezet.
Vaak lopen de OEM drivers altijd enorme stukken achter op de huidige versies, daarom raad ik iedereen ook aan altijd die modtool te gebruiken :)
hey, interessant! ik kan sinds mobiele versie eh.. 8.231.0.0 (waarom ziet het versienr. er anders uit in mijn hardware properties?) van februari (!) 2006 al niet meer updaten op mijn notebook... en asus heeft nog drivers van ergens 2005... eens proberen!
Wat is zo vreemd vind is dat de XP drivers apart gedownload kan worden (dus display en Control panel afzonderlijk). Bij de XP x64 drivers moet je altijd het volledige pakket nemen, terwijl je simpel bij de installatie de control panel weg kunt laten.

Iemand hier een verklaring voor? Of is dit gewoon omdat ze te lui zijn om ze te splitsen :D
Ik zelf download de 32-bit versie in losse delen zodat ik een Nederlandse Control Center kan mee pikken. Dit vinden sommige mensen hier fijn.
Ik denk dat het daarom gedaan is. Weet niet of er bij de x64 versie wel of geen Nederlandse versie is. Als er geen andere talen zijn bij x64 zou dit een verklaring kunnen zijn.

Win XP x64 is enkel in het Engels te krijgen...
Zijn de Vista drivers al uitontwikkeld voor de X1xxx kaarten ofzo, want opnieuw alleen maar improvements voor HDxxxx kaarten (de Quake4 improvement daargelaten). Ik mag hopen van niet, want nog steeds zet XP een aanzienlijk hogere prestatie neer in bijvoorbeeld Bf2 op mijn X1950XT dan dat het met dezelfde hardware en instellingen in Vista doet.
Ik ben bang van niet... Misschien dat SP1 voor vista daar wat aan kan doen? Het is algemeen bekend dat je met XP meer uit je hardware haalt dan bij vista nog... Leuk kaartje btw :) Deed het perfect op bf2 bij mij altijd.
Ik werk nu met de omega drivers maar die zitten nog altijd op versie 7.4 :( Zou de demo van enemy territory: quake wars hier ook mee werken of moet ik echt updaten naar 7.9?
Ik zal het wel eens testen maar duurt nog een uurtje tegen dat de demo binnen is.
De demo draait wel op de omega drivers 3.8 (CAT 7.4), maar ik heb wel win XP pro.

Ik heb de nieuwe drivers geinstalleerd, maar start na het laadscherm met zwart beeld op.. :? Gaat lekker.. Lees dat voor xp je ook met 7.8 uit de voeten kan?
Klopt, dat gebeurt altijd :) Daarna gaat het het toch weer over?
de x1950 agp wordt niet hoger gesupport als versie 7.7. Staat direct voorin het changelog.

wel krijg ik sinds dat ik 7.9 heb opgestart soms ook de melding inifinnite loop in ati2dvag.dll. Heb een x1950xt pci-e. Met 7.7 kreeg ik deze ook heel af en toe. Gebeurt alleen als ik windows boot en voordat hij volledig is uitgestart al programma's begin te opennen. Op het moment dat ik hem netjes laat uitratelen heb ik nergens last van. vindt het maar vreemd :+
Vind ik best jammer. Heb laatst de X1950GT agp aangeschaft, inderdaad ook problemen met 7.8 dus weer 7.7 erop.
Hoop dat er nog wel wat voor uitkomt eigenlijk.
Naja, met de kaart hiervoor (9800 non-pro) heb ik ook lang met stokoude drivers gezeten. Of ik moet eens kijken naar alternatieve drivers van Omega.

Wel jammer dat ik nu de demo van Quake wars niet kan spelen. Of is het zo dat ik het wel kan spelen maar dan wat grafische dingetjes mis?

Ik kan met de 7.7 drivers Quake Wars spelen zonder foutmeldingen. En ik heb een X1950 Pro AGP.
Oh, in dat geval ga ik het vanavond eens proberen! Dankjewel!

Waar ik mij trouwens wel afvraag waarom ze dat zo vaak zeggen. Ook al met R6 Vegas, dat je "die en die kaart nodig had anders kon je het hele spel niet spelen" terwijl dan achteraf blijkt dat je alleen wat grafische opties mist.
De 7.9 Beta doet et hier wel op mijn X1950 Pro 512mb AGP van Sapphire.

Heb geen zin om de final te installeren. Zal nauwelijks tot niet anders zijn dan de beta neem ik aan.
De drivers geven hier een enorme performance boost op Splinter Cell Double Agent.
Ik denk dat de drivers steeds beter geoptimaliseerd raken voor Vista (x64).
Mag ook wel na zo een tijdje, maar het is zeker mooi meegenomen.

X1650 512MB op Vista x64 btw.
