Software-update: UltraEdit 9.00

De heren van IDM Computer Solutions hebben een nieuwe versie van UltraEdit voor het Windows platform uitgebracht. Versie 9.00 biedt veel nieuwtjes ten opzichte van het gebruikers interface. Met dank aan machiel voor de tip.

• Find "entry" box/drop down on toolbar for quick finds
• Macros can be run when file is loaded and when file is saved
• Macro functions for "IfNameIs" and "IfExtIs" to check active filename/extension within macros for conditional statements

• Command line parameter -lx and -cx allowed following each file name to specify line and column to position to. Older method still supported also
• Multiple search paths allowed with find and replace in files
• View Menu includes option to show Page Breaks as line across the screen
• Added ability to copy Function List contents to clipboard
• Find and Replace in Files now allows multiple directories to be specified

Niet alleen text maar ook binaries. Het heeft goede hex edit mogelijkheden.

Imo is UltraEdit de allerbeste editor voor Windows. Html, perl, c++, Java, alles herkent ie zonder moeite.

En het is ook nog eens een kick-ass HEX-editor

Het is zeker de beste editor voor de meeste dingen, of als je graag verschillende talen in één editor werkt. Het is alleen zeker niet de beste editor vergeleken met gespecialiseerde IDE's. Deze werken vaak vele malen makkelijker met alles wat betrekking heeft tot de taal zelf. Het nadeel van deze IDE's is dat het gewone editen vaak niet op het niveau ligt van UltraEdit, maar de extra features maken de keuze meestal toch wel makkelijk. Ik gebruik nu ondertussen voor Python en PHP bijv. Komodo, voor de debugging-support, regex-toolkit, autocomplete(heeft UE ook, maar niet voor Python), code-folding etc.

Daarom zou ik zeggen: gebruik UE voor alles waar geen betere IDE voor handen is, wat dus vooral plain-text zal zijn.
