Het compressieformaat 7z wordt steeds meer gebruikt voor het comprimeren van bestanden. Het programma 7zX is, zoals de naam al doet vermoeden, speciaal geschreven voor Mac OS X en biedt volledige ondersteuning voor het 7z-formaat. De ontwikkelaar heeft versie 1.6 de deur uitgedaan met de volgende aankondiging:
