Het idee van een Concurrent Versions System is om de source code centraal op te slaan en wijzigingen bij te houden door gebruik te maken van versienummers. Hierdoor wordt het mogelijk om de verschillende versies te behouden en een overzicht te krijgen welke veranderingen door wie en wanneer zijn doorgevoerd. LinCVS is een grafische interface voor de commandline tool cvs waarmee het mogelijk is om check-outs, imports en commits uit te voeren. Daarnaast kan er door de verschillende versies gebladerd worden en de verschillen tussen het lokale bestand en in het cvs bestand worden opgezocht. De ontwikkelaars hebben enkele dagen geleden versie 1.4.3 vrijgegeven met de volgende veranderingen:
