AMD heeft enkele dagen geleden nieuwe Linux-drivers voor zijn ATI Radeon-videokaarten uitgebracht. De download is iets meer dan 72MB groot en kan zowel voor 32bits- als 64bits-omgevingen worden gebruikt. Versie 8.11 van Catalyst Linux Display Driver kan overweg met versies 6.7 tot en met 7.3 van X.org, Linux-kernel 2.6 en hoger en glibc 2.2 en 2.3. Deze release voegt onder andere ondersteuning to voor versie 4.7 van Red Hat Enterprise Linux en kent verder de verbeteringen voor Crossfirex en beeldweergave die we ook bij versie 8.11 voor Windows tegen kwamen. - X Server will may not start when using two display adapters with mismatched memory sizes.
- Corruption may be noticed when playing video content using mplayer.
- Starting X in dual-head mode with only one monitor connected may result in a black screen and the X Server failing to start.

- Reduced performance may be noticed when running GTKPerf on systems containing an ATI Radeon HD 38x0 or newer product.
- Primary display will remain blank after switching between virtual terminals with Dual-head Mode.
- Catalyst Control Center Pixel format settings always set to “RGB 4:4:4 Pixel format (Full RGB)” on restart X Server.
- Mplayer may stop responding when returning from S3/S4 sleep.
- X Server may not start when display is configured in Dual-Head mode.
- Enabling CrossFire may cause intermittent video corruption on the secondary display.
- X will start in clone mode when “Big Desktop” mode is enabled using Catalyst Control Center.
- The X Sever may fail to start with some combinations of Linux and ATI display adapter.
- Using the AMD installer to Generate Distribution Specific Driver Package may fail under Linux SUSE11.
- Desktop corruption may occur when switching from multiple X windows keeping one console in text mode.
- Alientrap NEXUIZ game does not immediately exit.
- Switching from text console to graphical console may cause the mplayer to stop responding during playback.
- System does not switch to “Optimal Performance” when returning from sleep and plugging AC power.
- No video displayed during playback of H.264 media file on certain Mobile platforms.
- The name for the “FirePRO 2450" is incorrectly displayed as “ATI FireMV 2450".
- CrossFire logo is not shown when playing 3D applications in full screen mode for 64bit Linux distributions.
- There are no shortcuts available for AMD Catalyst Control Center with KDE4. Please run “amdccle” from a Console Terminal to start the AMD Catalyst Control Center”.
- Display driver installation may not complete when Powersaved has been enabled. On some motherboards running openSuse 10.3 x86_64 an ACPI BIOS bug can cause a soft hang when starting X with the ATI Proprietary Linux Graphics Driver.
Workarounds:
- Update the system BIOS if available to fix the BIOS bug
- Update the kernel image to the latest version for openSuse10.3 x86_64, which works around the BIOS bug in the kernel
- Disable powersaved service when booting up if the BIOS or kernel is not updated
- After installing AMD Proprietary Linux Graphics Driver, run “aticonfig --acpi-services=off” to disable some ACPI services in the driver.
