Review canon canoscan lide 400

Omdat ik best wel tevreden was over de canon scanner die ik op mijn oude windows xp computer had, besloot ik om wederom een canon scanner te kopen: de canoscan lide 400
Deze lide 400 werkt via de usb-poort 3.0 en heeft geen aparte aan/uit-knop. Het apparaat voelt net zo degelijk en fragiel aan als mijn vorige canon scanner en heeft ook ongeveer de zelfde afmetingen en gewicht. De lide 400 maakt zeer snel een scan en de hardware lijkt te doen waarvoor je de scanner koopt: scannen.
Naast de scanner zit er in de doos ook nog een kabel om de scanner op een usb-poort aan te sluiten, enkele velletjes papier en een installatiedisk. Een handleiding ontbreekt. Zelfs op de disk is er geen document (doc, pdf, docx) te vinden dat iets meer over het gebruik en de werking van de scanner vertelt.
De fabrikant heeft de disk autostartend gemaakt om de software van de scanner te installeren. Als het installatieprogramma niet automatisch start, is de beschrijving op het velletje papier nogal summier hoe het installatieprogramma handmatig te starten. De software die bij mijn oude canon scanner zat, was recht-toe-recht-aan en vrij duidelijk. De software die bij deze lide 400 wordt geïnstalleerd, is ronduit teleurstellend. De gebruikersinterface ziet er simpel uit en werkt niet intuïtief. De makers van de software hebben voor een werkwijze gekozen die in mijn ogen niet logisch is.
Mijn conclusie: Het lukt om een scan met deze canoscan lide 400 van canon te maken maar de onlogische werking van de software zorgt voor irritatie en ontneemt me het plezier om met de scanner te werken.

I decided to buy the canon scanner because I was quite satisfied with the canon scanner I had on my old windows xp computer.
This lide 400 works via the USB port 3.0 and has no separate on/off switch. The device feels just as solid and fragile as my previous canon scanner and also has about the same dimensions and weight.
The lide 400 makes a scan very quickly and the hardware appears to do what you buy it for: scanning.
In addition to the scanner, there is also a cable in the box to connect the scanner to a USB port (3.0), a few sheets of paper and an installation disk. A manual is missing. Even on the disk there is no document (doc, pdf, docx) that tells anything more about the use and operation of the scanner.
The manufacturer has made the disk autostarting to install the software of the scanner. If the installation program does not start automatically, the description on the sheets is rather short on how to start the installation program manually.
The software that came with my old canon scanner was straightforward. The software that comes with this lide 400 is downright disappointing. The user interface looks simple and does not work intuitively. The makers of the software have opted for a method that in my opinion is not logical.
My conclusion:
It is possible to make a scan with this canoscan lide 400, but the illogical operation of the software causes irritation and takes away the pleasure of working with the scanner.
