If you look through the following table it will be obvious that if the BX6 2 hadn't been able to up the VCORE, the ASUS P2B Rev 1.10 could have been the winner. But since the processor core voltage control on ABIT BX6 Rev 2.0 is a reality, it allows to get better overclocking results. Moreover, after having finished with ASUS I was absolutely worn out: I had to reconfigure jumper set with my own hands! So, I arrived at the conclusion that jumperless technology is much more convenient and less tiring when overclocking.

WickedPC heeft een review van de 3DfxCool hddHO, een harddrive coolers met 3 ventilators. Het ding ziet er best wel indrukwekkend uit. Hoe koel is-ie?

One 8.4GB hard drive that was mounted normally was quite hot to the touch. You could barley touch it without burning your fingers (although my girlfriend said I was a wuss). The other 8.4GB hard drive that was mounted in the hddHO was quite cold. Not room temperature, we're talking cold. I have no doubt in my mind that the hddHO will extend the life of my hard drive by keeping its temperature normal.

Het ding kost 46 dollar, wat toch wel erg heftig is voor zo'n drive cooler. Met wat heen en weer knutselen bouw je zonder al te veel moeite je eigen homemade solution.

Hardware Central heeft een preview van Kryotech's nieuwe koelsysteempje. Deze is wat minder onbetaalbaar ($409) dan de Kryotech Cool K6-3/2 systemen. Hier wat info over de Renegade:

The Renegade ATX PE is a built on top of a small refrigeration unit designed to keep your Pentium II, Celeron, or even Pentium III at about room temperature (there is also a socket7/socket370 version). From the refridgeration unit, a cold plate attaches to the front of your CPU and from our initial tests, cools things down to about 68 fahrenheit, or 20 C. Of course we'll have to see how it performs with some overclocking too, so look out for the review next week.

Riva3D heeft een V3-3500 getest met een PIII systeempje. Hier alvast een hap:

The V3 posts some mighty impressive scores. However, you can still see the drop off at 16 and 32 MB texture rendering. The full system specs also list the tests run at 800x600 and 1200x1024, and show that even at 12x10, the V3 screams along. What's most amazing is that the next driver release for the V3 just came out, and preliminary testing reveals a significant performance increase. And there's STILL room left for more performance in this card. But is speed enough? What about the next generation of games? Will the V3 fare well with larger textures and 32 bit vs 16 bit color? This remains to be seen. But for now the V3 blows away everything else out there speed wise.

GA-Source heeft een nieuwe S3TC Unreal leveltje te pakken gekregen. Dankzij S3 Texture Compression kunnen veel grotere textures gebruikt worden, met meer detail en dat ziet er erg vet uit. GA-Source heeft wat info en screenshots:

One of the enormous benefits of the Savage3D chipset is the S3 Texture Compression (look for our Hercules Supercharged Terminator Beast review to be posted this weekend). One of it's downfalls was that it was not in use in any games. S3 has 2 rooms available for download, but they are showrooms, not playable levels. Quake 3 Arena, and Unreal Tournament will both be supporting S3TC, but they are still a little while off. I managed to persuade S3 to allow us to post this Egyptian level that many of you have seen in reviews. For those of you who have a Savage3D based card, this is probably the first available playable level that you have not created yourself. This is not a large level, but it is still decently playable for a fast heavy action deathmatch. Even as small as it is, it uses more than 35MB of textures to give its photo realism.

Once I calibrated my settings I fired up Quake II.  First, the only thing I saw was a black screen but then the words eyeSCREAM pop up.  When I started a game I could do nothing but stare in amazement.  I was in awe looking at the gun jumping out of the monitor, boxes having body and hallways giving rise to depth.  This was going to be fun. I walked through the level just thinking to myself how real this is.  I didn’t even care if blaster rounds were hitting me; actually I wanted to have things shot at me so I could see them come out of the screen.  Finally, the most exciting part was when I came across a jump; I had a real awareness for the distance.  The other side felt to be feet away and not inches.

AMD gaat zeer waarschijnlijk een K7 demonstreren op de CeBIT op een snelheid van 600MHz, aldus The Register:

arious hardware sites are reporting that AMD will demonstrate a K7 chip running at 600MHz at the CeBIT trade fair in Hannover in two weeks time.

According to AMD Zone, engineers at AMD have also succeeded in manufacturing K7 samples which clock at 650MHz.

The reports suggest that AMD will show the K7 clocking 600MHz but do not need Kryotech technology to achieve these speeds.

Er zijn al wat langer vermoedens dat de snelheid waarop de K7 in juli geïntroduceerd gaat worden ook 600MHz zal bedragen (multiplier 3, busspeed 200MHz).
