The Reverend Pulprit vuurde een mailtje richting Tim Sweeney, met een vraag naar zijn mening over de 3dfx Napalm:
With the press release by 3dfx about announcing Napalm at Comdex, what are your thoughts on Napalm's "one billion pixels per second" fill rate? How will that affect UT's performance? And what if its texel fill rate is one-to-one with its pixel fill rate? How will texel fill rate of 1GTPS improve UT's performance? Which would be more important in a game like UT (which stresses fill rates) - pixel or texel fills?Unreal and UT perform optimally when the texel fill rate is 2X the pixel fill rate. Of course, with 1 GPix, there's plenty of bandwidth to spare, so I'm not so worried about 100% optimality.
1 GPix/sec means you should be able to play UT at 1920x1080 at full frame rate (assuming you have a fast CPU, say a Pentium III 500 or faster). Looking forward to it! (That is based on seeing the spec 3dfx released publically; I don't have any hardware on hand to verify its performance.)
