Fragging in Dolby surround has become a reality. Dolby has completed its engineering studies and sent approval and certification to Yamaha for the XG-Movie 5.1 Digital Surround Card. The Yamaha XG-Movie 5.1, targeted at PC enthusiasts and gamers, includes Yamaha's YMF744 and YSS912 audio chips, which support Dolby Digital, and DTS Digital Surround. The new card provides a variety of surround effects such as church, jazz, hall, disco, live, stadium and theatre using a sub-DSP (digital signal processor) in the Yamaha YSS912.The Yamaha XG-Movie 5.1 is a high fidelity, PCI sound card that outputs 6 channels of audio (left, right, left-surround, right-surround, center and LFE, sometimes referred to as subwoofer) and delivers cinema quality effects. The card accepts both analog and digital input sources and provides both analog and digital output. Signal to noise ratio (S/N) is greater than 96 dB. The XG-Movie 5.1 sound card will ship to OEMs and distributors this month. The expected retail price is $199.
