Ga'ash Soffer heeft weer een tech artikel in elkaar gedraaid voor Voodoo Extreme, dit keer over Anti-Aliasing. 3dfx zal o.a. full-scene anti-aliasing in de Voodoo4 / Napalm zetten. Hieronder een gedeelte uit het stuk, lees hier verder.
Currently, full-scene anti-aliasing provides substantial image quality gains over edge anti-aliasing and no-anti-aliasing. Unfortunately, no current architectures can perform full-scene anti-aliasing at reasonable speeds. For current and older games (i.e. games with relatively low polygon counts), full-scene anti-aliasing is going to be a key image quality enhancement feature. As games get more complex and polygon counts rise significantly, edge anti-aliasing is going to play a large role in image fidelity. Since scenes will be composed of more and more polygons, their projected sizes (i.e. size on the screen) will be significantly smaller, in turn meaning there will be more polygon edges. Once polygon counts rise to hundreds of thousands a scene, edge anti-aliased scenes will look almost as good as full-scene anti-aliased.
