Three weeks after a problem with Intel 8-way motherboards and on-chip Level 2 cache first came to light, company officials said today that the glitch which caused systems to hang when using the 1MB on-chip Level 2 cache configuration is fixed. However, the problem persists in 512KB Level 2 cache configurations, according to Otto Pijpker, an Intel spokesman.
"We don't have a solution yet for the 512KB configuration," Pipker said.
Systems configured with 2MB of Level 2 never suffered from the problem. The problem manifests itself by a blue screen or system reset, but according to Pijpker, this happens only under very unusual circumstances.
