Acer CD-RWs have shifted market position from mid range to a best specification available market position with the launch this week of the new CRW-8432A. The CRW-8432A will offer an 8MB memory buffer that is twice the size of previous "high end" 4MB CD-RW drives. The most common frustration associated with trying to make your own CDs has been the "Buffer Under Run" error messages which indicate that data file size had exceed the drives memory limits. The result could be a $1 coaster rather than a successful recording. The 8MB buffer should reduce the occurrence of such errors. Acer's familiar flash upgradeable firmware feature has been maintained in the new CRW-8423A. E-IDE/ATAPI interface.
