Do you need a hard drive cooler? The answer is definite, it depends. It depends on what kind of drives you are using and sometimes how many you are using. If you are running a real hard drive, a SCSI drive, (send complaints to TheDude ) and we know who you are, the answer is yes you should have a cooler. The SCSI drives operate using a higher spindle speed and generate more heat. For those of you that refuse to come over to the dark side and see the light (several people are rereading that last sentence again) and are sticking with IDE you may not need a hard drive cooler. If you are using a 7200 rpm hard drive (IBM) then you should probably buy a hard drive cooler. If you are running a 5400 rpm hard drive and it's the only one in your case, save your money.
