Volgens een nieuwsartikel van Forbes zal AMD in november een 800MHz model van de Athlon introduceren. In de tussentijd kunnen we ook nog een 750MHz versie verwachten:
AMD stock jumped 12 cents to $17.25 per share on the news. This is the second consecutive time that AMD has beaten Intel in the race to release a faster chip. AMD will soon announce the 750-MHz version of its chip, only to be followed by 800-MHz versions in November.
[...] Intel (nasdaq: INTC) on the other hand is not sitting idle and is expected to roll out 733-MHz and 667-MHz versions of its Pentium III chips later this month. In total, about nine new versions of the Pentium III are due out in the fourth quarter.
AMD's speed attack has not really affected Intel's revenue growth. According to U.S. Bancorp, Intel's microprocessor sales in the third quarter topped 30 million units, up 20% from the previous quarter. Revenue for the third quarter ended September 30 is likely to be up 8% from the previous quarter to about $7.3 billion. Intel is likely to have earnings of 60 cents per share. It will announce third quarter earnings after October 10.
