UK Gamer heeft een artikeltje over nVidia en aartsrivaal 3dfx in elkaar geknutseld. Uiteraard vinden we hier weer de bekende vraag: wie gaat meer ass kicken?
DirectX 7 fixes texture management, or so it is claimed, so hopefully game developers wont have to re-write all of this code like Epic were forced to. All that then remains is the hardware being cool with that level of detail. The key issue is that as soon as the Athlon and stupidly fast CPUs arrive, suddenly /now/ nVidia are offloading the CPU by doing T&L on board? 3dfx is most certainly not out of the picture yet – there are indications that their texture handling situation will be superior on more than one front. So we get this situation of… if you’ve got a game with a billion polys and no textures than it’s going to be best on NV10. Or if you’ve got a game with fewer polygons and bag loads of textures then it’s going to kick ass on Napalm. Interesting huh?
