Gisteren ging het nog om een onbevestigd gerucht, nu lijkt het er daadwerkelijk op dat Cyrix overgenomen zal worden door VIA Tech. Hier heb je de info uit een nieuwsartikel van ZDNet:
Via Tech confirmed reports that it would buy the Cyrix x86 line from National Semiconductor Inc (NYSE:NSM), a major Silicon Valley firm that bought Cyrix two years ago -- but failed to make it profitable.Via Tech said it was convinced Cyrix was viable despite its David-and-Goliath competition with Intel's Pentium, which dominates the global market for central-processing units, or CPUs, the central brains of a computer.
"We are not afraid to compete directly with Intel. We have had many fights with Intel Nasdaq:INTC) before," said Via Tech sales and marketing chief Ted Lee, who announced the deal in Taipei.
