AVault: What are the creative goals of this new project?
Lourdin: To arouse the primeval fear of the dark felt by each of us. The new episode gives the player an experience that is comparable to being in a cinema, except that he is the actor. It is real-time 3D cinema that gives the player the opportunity to experience and share this extraordinary adventure.
AVault: A lot of things have changed in computer gaming since the release of the third title. Nevertheless, what are some of the classic elements the series pioneered that will be revisited?
Lourdin: At the time of its release, Alone In The Dark revolutionized the adventure genre as much in terms of technology as gameplay. Not only was it the game that introduced polygonal 3D into the adventure genre, but it was also the first to combine adventure with action. But what characterizes the first episode the most is the fear and anguish being the driving force behind the gameplay. Alone In The Dark 4 will blend the same scary atmosphere and nightmarish monsters of the original while leveraging tomorrow’s advanced technology.
