It seems as if we've been waiting forever for games to start to take advantage of 32-bit rendering, and with the release of the Quake III test, we finally had the chance to see its benefits. Running the game in 16-bit color on either card produced some annoying artifacts. For instance, there was banding in the sky, and smoke trails and explosions looked blocky and pixelated. However, all of these problems disappeared when run in 32-bit color on the TNT 2, allowing us to play the game as it was intended.Going forward, the lack of 32-bit rendering on the Voodoo 3 looks to pose a big problem in image quality, with the Quake III test offering one of the first opportunities to see its full impact.
