3Dfx zegt nee tegen PGC

Er zal geen Alienware Voodoo3 PGC (Parallel Graphics Configuration) config komen. Mag niet van 3Dfx:

"We met with 3dfx VP of retail sales Richard Burns at E3," Alienware's vice president Alex Aguila told GameSpot News. "He stated that a retail PGC-enhanced Voodoo3 product would interfere with their own branding and assured us that 3dfx would do everything in their power to stop us." Although he couldn't give any specifics, Aguila mentioned that a number of retailers had expressed interest in carrying Alienware's upcoming Voodoo3 2000 PGC package. Nonetheless, gamers interested in PGC will be able to purchase the dual boards directly from Alienware when they become available sometime next month. In the meantime, the company is currently exploring other technologies and is talking with potential partners for other possible future PGC products. Coincidentally, Metabyte - developer of the PGC technology - has told GameSpot News that it has received a pair of PCI TNT2 boards and is busily testing them in tandem. We'll keep you informed of any new developments.

Koel, nu nog iemand vinden die de PGC kaarten naar Nederland gaat halen (ComptechWorld, Narwal? ).

In response to the Voodoo3 PGC solutions we are still shooting for
a June 15th date on the systems. As far as the upgrade kit for the
end-user we are looking at shipping product by the end of June. The
upgrade kit will be offered directly from Alienware via the website
or phone sales.

In regards to Nvidia's lukewarm response, all I can say is that we still don't know what the final outcome will be. Regardless, we still feel that there is going to be a chipmaker that will embrace this technology.

We are committed with Metabyte to make this a reality and if any of
the current chip or board manufacturers don't take advantage of it, it
will basically be their loss.

I think it's about time that we the gamer/developer have a major say in all this. In the past this really wasn't the case, not any more.

Waarom brengt 3dfx het niet gewoon zelf uit. (Verdienen ze meer lijkt mij)

Ja, volgens geruchten zal de volgende generatie Voodoo kaarten: De Voodoo 4 (Codenaam: "Napalm")weer een SLI mode bevatten.

Dit zal waarschijnlijk in werking gaan door een AGP model te koppelen aan een PCI model.

AGP gekoppeld aan PCI wat blijft er dan nog over van AGP?? niet eens de hogere bussnelheid omdat de lamgzaamste kaart het tempo bepaald. V4 (?) zou toch AGP 4x krijgen, zouden ze misschien intern verbonden worden die twee kaarten zodat ze allebij de AGP bus kunnen gebruiken en de PCI bus nog enkel voor de aansturing van de 2e kaart nodig is??

Nou ja, in ieder geval hoeven we niet zo heel erg lang meer te wachten op het antwoord.

3dfx heeft door laten schemeren dat we in ieder geval een nieuwe voodookaart gaan zien in september!!!!!

Of dit de Voodoo 4 zal zijn of de Voodoo 3 4000 is nog niet duidelijk.

Waarschijnlijk zal het meteen een Voodoo 4 gaan worden want er wordt gespeculeert dat deze chip super hot gaat worden.

Alle functies van de TNT 2, met extra:

- SLI-Mode
- Transform & Lightning Support (ontlast de processor nog meer)
- Geometrische processor

Het moet ook niets voor niets de grote concurrent gaan worden van de

TNT 3 die in December dit jaar gaat uitkomen.

De hard- begint nu wel erug snel op de software vooruit te lopen.

Mijn voodoo2 doet het anders op q3 vrij goed

Het gaat inderdaad erg hard, ik kan me nog herinneren dat de voodoo1 meer dan een jaar de snelste was. De TNT2 is nog nauwelijksverkrijgbaar en het blijkt dat er binnen 3 maanden alweer een veel snellere voodoo 4 komt.
Ach misschien wordt de K6 III dan wel heel interessant doordat de FPU perf. bij de voodoo4 een stuk minder boeiend is
