Carl 'lowlight' Nelson van hardCOREware.net heeft een review gemaakt van de Ugate 3300 Wireless Router van MaxGate. In tegenstelling tot de meeste routers gebruikt de Ugate 3300 de IEEE 802.11b wireless standaard. Hierdoor heeft het apparaat een capaciteit van 11 mbps (half-duplex) op afstanden rond 120 meter (in open ruimten).
Naast 11 draadloze kanalen (dit aantal kan verschillen afhankelijk van het land waar je woont), zit er ook een 10/100 LAN poort op die je met een hub kunt verbinden.
De router komt standaard met één draadloze adapter voor de router zelf. Je zult dus zelf nog een adapter moeten aanschaffen om het apparaat te kunnen gebruiken.
Installatie van het apparaat is een eitje en is voor een prijs van 329,95 dollar (824 gulden) niet duur te noemen. De reviewer geeft het apparaat een 9,8:
After being quite impressed by the ZyXEL P316 (it is a bit easier to be impressed if you don't have to pay for it), I am utterly amazed by the UGate 3300! Everything the much more expensive P316 can do, the UGate 3300 can do just as well, and it has a MUCH more robust AND easier to use interface. All this for $200 less as well.
802.11b wireless networking looks to be the standard that most manufacturers are going to stick with for now. This is good, since if you ever decide to switch routers, or add another wireless device to your network, you won't have to worry about compatibility. I have no complaints about the wireless networking either; everything worked very well, with not a single hiccup.
Of course, there will be faster 802.11 standards, but they will always be backward-compatible.
At this price I don't even hesitate to suggest the Prestige 3300. Even if you don't use wireless networking just yet, it is a good option to keep open. You simply will not be lacking any features with the UGate 3300, and if you can get the Print Server working, even better!
