Another thing we look for is how well a monitor handles its geometry. Some cheaper monitors have a tendency to not be able to hold the lines around your windows area straight which creates a bowing effect. Once again, we were impressed with the i70A’s ability to hold a very crisp and straight picture at all resolutions.
The only negative we found with this unit is how IIyama has hard-wired the signal cable into the back of the monitor. This makes replacement difficult unless you send it back to them. We all know folks who like to shove their monitor back against the wall. This creates a strain on the signal cable that over time can cause a short in it. Being able to have a removable cable makes replacement much easier. We’ve seen this on other models from IIyama and have to wonder why they didn’t include it on this model.
Overall, the i70A is still the best 17-inch monitor we’ve seen to date, and should be a great replacement for those upgrading from either a 15-inch, or a lame 17-inch and don’t quite have the money for a 19-inch. At a price of only $269.00, you’ll be hard pressed to find a monitor anywhere that provides you with this level of ease-of-use and image quality in one package.
