De mannen van GamePC hebben vandaag een review gebakken van de ATC-100 miditower. Deze kast is evenals de ATC-200 gemaakt van aluminium en daarom super licht. Qua design zijn er wel enkele kleine wijzigingen doorgevoerd, de intake fans aan de voorkant van de kast zijn verdwenen waardoor het aantal van 3 5.25 bays ineens een stuk minder is. Wel handig is dat er bij deze kast aan de voorkant een tweetal USB poorten zitten. Een andere wijziging is de vervanging van de 60mm fan achter de CPU door een exemplaar van 120mm met een duct. Het moge duidelijk zijn dat een grotere fan positief is, maar het probleem ligt bij de duct: die zit vlak boven de CPU en die kan er voor zorgen dat een slot-1/A plankje minder goed in de kast past. Elke kast heeft dus zijn voor- of nadelen maar de reviewer was van mening dat de ATC-200 gemiddeld het beste is:
Coolermaster definitely made an impact on the GamePC staff earlier this year, when they dropped their all-aluminum ATC-200 case on us. A departure from standard PC case design (not as severe as the iMac mind you, but definitely showing a different way of thinking), Coolermaster was intent on bringing the ultimate air-cooled case to market. The ATC-100 is also designed along these lines, while bringing a different method of cooling to the system case.
[...] Coolermaster has come SO close to making the perfect overclocking case. At first glance, the ATC-100 looks to have improved on the ATC-200. A new heat duct for cooling CPUs and front-mounted USB ports add to their feature set, while keeping their extremely convenient thumbscrew assembly and lightweight aluminum design. However, they removed the lower front 60mm fans, creating potential hard drive cooling issues for high rev hard drives. (A 5 1/4" hard drive cooler can get around this problem, but it does take up space.) Also, the space taken up by the new heat duct does raise questions about the installation of some CPU configurations, most notably Slot A Athlons with GFDs and Socket processors with tall fans.
In my opinion, the ATC-100 adds some nice extras and a functional extra CPU cooler, but the ATC-200 is a slightly better overall chassis, especially for those who have slotted Athlon/Pentium III setups. The price is still very high compared to other mid-tower cases, but then again no other case provides the extra off-the-shelf CPU cooling like the ATC-100 does.
