Overall, we’re rather pleased with the DeskTop Theatre 2500. The system has left us with an impression of a solid, high-quality, introductory to mid-range DVD system.
From an ease-of-use perspective, the system earns top honors. The range of input and positioning options makes the system one of the most compatible we’ve seen--not only from a hardware but from a room compatibility perspective. Furthermore, the system does look quite good, and while we don’t promote purchase of a system purely for looks, it’s a definite plus.
In terms of sound, the system performed quite reasonably. Trebles and mids are handled well by the satellites, although bass is somewhat lacking. Overall volume levels are sufficient for small areas, but won’t be suitable for very large rooms. All in all, fairly well-rounded, good-quality sound. Not earth-shaking, teeth-rattling, neighbor-disturbing sound, but the DTT2500s do stay fairly clean and clear up to reasonable volumes. For mild DVD or gaming use, we have no problem recommending this system, although we still feel high-end 2-channel systems are best for music purposes.
