Winbond heeft een rapport opgesteld over de aardbeving die Taiwan twee dagen geleden trof met een kracht van 6,7 op de schaal van Richter. Het epicentrum van de aardbeving lag midden in Taiwan, ongeveer 150 kilometer buiten de hoofdstad Taipei. Letselschade bij het personeel van Winbond heeft zich niet voorgedaan en schade aan de produktieapparatuur lijkt mee te vallen:
An earthquake of magnitude 6.7 struck Taiwan again at 2:23 am of June 11. After 20 hours of detailed examination the Company reports the following information at 10:00 pm of June 11:There was no personnel injuries. All buildings, plant facilities, computer-integrated manufacturing systems and IT networks were intact. Power, water, bulk gas, special gas and chemical supplies are normal. Testing equipment are all back to normal. Fab 1 was intact. There were some wafer scraps at Fab 2, about 1% of the work-in-process. Equipment at Fab 2 was intact. Fab 4 and 5 experienced a bigger damage, but at a much smaller scale than that on September 21 of last year when the island was struck by a magnitude 7.3 earthquake. Quartz ware damage at Fab 4 and 5 was around 12%. The Company has kept enough spares to replace the damaged quartz ware within days. One deep-UV scanner may need re-calibration. The Company expects it can be fixed very soon . Wafer scraps was currently estimated around 2% of the total work-in-process. Production operation in all production sites has been resumed. The Company is insured in property damage and business interruption. Net loss in profit should be no more than 1.5 million US dollars. Winbond.
