SANTA CLARA, CA – April 26, 2000 – S3® Incorporated (NASDAQ: SIII) today reported that net revenues for the first quarter of 2000 were $161.7 million compared to $44.3 million for the first quarter of 1999. The 1999 comparative results do not include results of operations from Diamond Multimedia. Net income for the first quarter of 2000, including an extraordinary one-time gain based on S3’s UMC holdings, was $492.6 million, or $5.04 per share. This compares to a net loss of $13.9 million or $0.27 per share for the same quarter last year. Operating results for the first quarter of 2000 were a loss of $0.31 per share, inclusive of a write down of approximately $6 million related to liquidation of S3’s low-end graphics card inventory. The per share amounts are stated on a fully diluted basis.
For the second straight quarter, S3’s Internet-related businesses achieved significant growth, led by its Rio business, which posted a 69% increase in shipments over the fourth quarter of 1999.
