Iedereen die al wat langer in sci-fi wereld rondhangt en van strategiespellen houdt, heeft ongetwijfeld een van de delen uit de X-com-serie gespeeld. In deze spellenreeks stuur je een organisatie aan, die wil voorkomen dat buitenaardse wezens de aarde overnemen. Het achterliggende verhaal leunt zwaar op de jaren 70 tv-serie UFO. Sinds enkele jaren wordt er onder de naam UFO: Alien Invasion een opensource game ontwikkeld die sterk gebaseerd is op de eerste twee delen uit de X-com -erie, namelijk UFO: Enemy Unknown en X-com: Terror from the Deep.
