Software-update: Kanotix 2005-02

Op het forum van Kanotix is een nieuwe versie van de op Debian gebaseerde live-cd uitgebracht. De besturingssysteem is aangekomen bij versie 2005-02 en wordt onder meer geleverd met Linux-kernel 2.6.11.7, KDE 3.4, OpenOffice.org 1.1.3 en mediaspeler Kaffeine 0.6. Deze release van Kanotix is hier vanaf een FTP-server te downloaden, BitTorrent-gebruikers kunnen op deze locatie het torrent-bestand vinden. De release notes van 2005-02 zien er als volgt uit:

Ja maar wel weer OpenOffice 1.1.3 terwijl 1.1.4 er al weer erg lang is.

kan je een knoppix ook installeren op je hdd?

Kan volgens mij wel.. moet je iets van install ofzo in je konsole intypen?? geen idee, je kan beter denk ik een andere distro nemen die je hoort te installeren, mandrake suse of fedora zijn wel makkelijk als je weinig ervaring hebt

Super distro !
Bijzonder volledig en het ziet er werkelijk mooi uit.
Vanaf de live-cd naar HDD geinstalleerd. Cookie.
Het is knoppix maar dan grafisch mooier en met meer proggies standaard 'on board'

Installeren naar HDD = kanotix-installer (vanuit cli)
Aanrader.

Toch een minpuntje:
Netwerk (eth0) is bij mij niet goed geconfigureerd.
Lijkt wel alsof de modules voor 3com niet aanwezig zijn

Netwerk probleem opgelost maar het was ff lastig.

wat werkt bij mij is:
rmmod 3c59x (voor de zekerheid)
insmod /lib/modules/.../.../kernel/drivers/net/3c59x.ko options=8)
(had daarvoor options=4 gegeven maar dat deed 'm niet)

Handiger is om het bovenstaande (op een andere manier) in /etc/modules.conf het volgende neer te zetten:
alias eth0 3c59x
options 3c59x options=8

en in /etc/network/interfaces:
alias eth0 inet dhcp
(voor automatisch ip-adres laten toewijzen)


Daarna liep alles (ff "modprobe 3c59x" geven)
en daarna "ifup eth0"

Don Becker's 3c59x driver is used for most 3com cards, including Fast EtherLink 3c590/3c592/3c595/3c597 and the EtherLink XL 3c900 and 3c905 cards. Alternative drivers are available from 3com only recently and not yet part of the Linux distributions.

In addition, full_duplex=1 can be supplied to force the card into full duplex mode, e.g.

options 3c59x options=5 full_duplex=1

for 100baseT full duplex as used inside the computer center. Note that this should only be done if auto-negotiation fails completely, and that setting full duplex mode must be done on both switch and network card simultaneously, otherwise the result may be worse than before. We have seen transfer rates of less then 5kB/s when NIC and switch did not agree in their duplex settings.
