Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® technology allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency, which results in decreased power consumption, which results in less heat production, which in turn permits improved acoustics because fans do not need to spin as quickly.
Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology is compatible with Intel® Hyper-Threading™ technology. The operating system sees two virtual processors. Requests to change the power state are prioritised between each virtual processor by the BIOS and the operating system; the power state will default to that of the virtual processor requesting the highest state.
Intel® Xeon™ processors with the 800 MHz front-side bus at frequencies 3.40 GHz or higher are the only processors that support this feature.
Toevoeging: het Gigabyte moederboard is socket 775, Pentium 4. Volgens mij is Xeon socket 604. Ik dacht al dat ze frequency stepping ook op gewone P4 aan het toepassen waren.
