Software-update: Nvu 0.50

Linspire heeft een nieuwe versie van Nvu (spreek uit: N-view) uitgebracht. De update is genummerd als 0.50 en kan vanaf deze server in verschillende gecompileerde uitvoeringen gedownload worden. Nvu is een zogenaamd Web Authoring System voor zowel Windows als Linux en MacOS X. De software moet concurreren met programma's als FrontPage en Dreamweaver. Nvu is gebaseerd op de code base van Mozilla Composer en stelt zich als doel om gemakkelijk in gebruik te zijn, ook voor de niet technisch onderlegde gebruiker. De lijst met veranderingen ziet er als volgt uit:

• Typing in tables and nested tables was very slow in 0.41, this is now fixed
• Linspire version calls kprinter
• it's now possible to rename a file/directory in the Site Manager
• linux builds (including Linspire) don't need any more the -edit or -editor command line arg to open a URL; just give the URL in the command line...
• it's now possible to drag an image from the Site Manager and drop it onto the main editing window; other filetypes will generate a link
• XFN 1.1
• the preferences now have a Fonts panel

Known Issues

• colored source view is not dynamic yet
• if the selection is preserved between Normal and Source View, the Source View does not correctly scroll to show the selection
• if renaming a file/dir in the Site Manager fails because of file permissions, no error message is fired

Weet iemand toevallig of dit een fork is van Mozilla Composer? Of is het echt een geheel ander pakket?

Dat is het inderdaad. Het is een soort firefox/thunderbird/sunbird, maar dan van composer. En niet binnen het Mozilla project.

Nvu is wel degelijk gebaseerd op Mozilla Composer, en heeft de Mozilla-broncode nodig om Nvu te compileren. Het is dus niet echt een rewrite ofzo.

Volgens mij is het juist geen fork van composer maar een nieuwe editor op basis van mozilla en XUL.

Het is eigenlijk een code editor zoals bijvoorbeeld bluefish en homesite, maar dan gebouwd binnen een mozilla omgeving. Dit zie je ook in de interface, die is logisch anders opgebouwd dan composer vroegah...

NVU is geen fork, het heeft psvr ook de source nodig van Composer.
Volgens mij gebruikt ie een aantal classes, en poept ie er zelf een aantal classes bij, en zo krijg je een mooi geheel. Het is dus idd een editor op basis van Composer. (11,68 MB zou ook ee nbeetje veel zijn voor een fork-script...)

Adware? Valt Nvu niet gewoon onder de GPL? Adware klinkt meteen weer zo akelig, terwijl ik helemaal geen advertenties o.i.d. in het programma kan vinden.
