Firmware-update: Plextor 12/10/32A 1.08

Galaxie meldt dat er nieuwe firmware beschikbare is voor de populaire Plextor PlexWriter 12/10/32A. Je kunt het bestandje hier neerhalen.

De aanpassingen in deze firmware:

Added:

• Playing of audiocd is done through buffering (This will improve the playback of scratched discs)

Fixed Bugs:

• CD-Extra (8cm) was recognised as audio cd

Improvements:

• Write performance for various discs, types and speeds
• Reading of UPS/ISRC information is done at higher speed
• General read performance

Ik zou maar oppassen met nieuwe Firmware versies van de Plextor, schijnt iets te zijn dat met de laatste firmware versie en het kopieren van Safedisk2 cd's

CDRSOFT.NET published a very interesting piece on how the latest Plextor PX-W124TS & PX-W1210A firmware upgrades are not able to backup SafeDisc v2 protected CD's but that older firmware versions can! They suspect that Plextor has made a deal with Macrovision not to support SafeDisc v2.
Just by downgrading the firmware to version 1.04 "solves" this problem and SafeDisc v2 protected CD's can easily be copied using CloneCD:

Dit is wel gave functie, soort "ShockProof"-optie. Ik vraag mij af hoeveel je hiervan merkt in de praktijk, maar in theorie is het een bijzondere en misschien ook handige functie. Krijgen we binnenkort misschien meer CD-ROM of DVD-Spelers met buffer-functie ?

Als ik een cd-tjs afspeel, wordt er echt geen gebruik gemaakt van het interne geheugen. Audio-uit van de cd-rom gaat de geluidskaart in, zonder tussenkomst van de PC.

Als je toch ook nog RAW data wil schrijven/lezen gebruik 1.01:

Another thing I want to add is something the webmaster from www.CD-RW.ORG rememberd me today:
In the Plex 4220 the 1.01 firmware is the only firmware that is RAW compatible - none of the newer ones are. They said that they had technical reasons for disabling the RAW mode, but didn't give any more info on the subject.

Het gaat hier toch over de PX-W1210A en niet over de 4220

Kun je eigenlijk onteindig vaak flashen, of is het aan te raden dit niet te vaak te doen. Anders zou ik kiezen voor de nieuwste firmware, en alleen bij een speciaal beveiligde CD een oudere versie terug zetten.

En als je zo'n ali illegali bent die constant de nieuwste safedisc2 games kopiëert en je hebt geen zin om steeds te flashen, dan koop je er gewoon nog een plexje bij...

Welke firmware is nou het beste?
Ik heb het idee, dat het kwa performance niet veel uitmaakt.

Ik heb problemen met overburnen (firmware 1.07), zou ik beter een andere kunnen installeren?
