Software-update: Mozilla 1.4.1

Op de stie Mozilla.org is versie 1.4.1 te downloaden van Mozilla. De browser maakt gebruik van de gecko-engine om HTML-code te renderen en is beschikbaar voor Linux x86, MacOS X, OS/2 en Windows. De volgende veranderingen zijn te vinden in de release notes:

New Features and Fixes

• Mozilla on Windows now has support for NTLM authentication. This enables Mozilla to talk to MS web and proxy servers that are configured to use "windows integrated security".
• Mozilla's bookmarks have been overhauled. Bookmarks now include a root level folder, the ability to have two differently named bookmarks pointing at the same location, site icons in the Bookmark Manager and Bookmarks Sidebar, and separators now have support for labels.
• Composer now supports click and drag dynamic image and table resizing. If an image is selected or if the caret is placed inside a table, eight resizing handles appear and allow to resize the image/table with a simple click/drag/release. In the case of an image, the resizing is done real-time and a semi-opaque shadow of the image at its target size is shown during resizing. A tooltip shows in real-time the target size in pixels, and the relative change in pixels too.
• Mail now has junk-mail context menu items, a "delete junk mail" menu item and many other usability improvements for junk-mail controls.
• Pop-up blocking has been streamlined to improve usability.
• Users can now specify "blank page," "home page," or "Last page visited" for each of first window, new window and new tab.
• Users can now specify default font, size and color for HTML mail compose.
• Image blocking/disabling is now more flexible and users can "view image" to see blocked or not loaded images.
• "Launch file" after downloading has been enabled for .exe files
• It is possible to build Mozilla for Win32 using GCC. See the win32 build instructions for details.
• Proxy auto-config (PAC) failover has been implemented
• Mozilla 1.4.1 contains thousands of additional bugfixes, including changes to improve performance, stability, web site compatability, standards support, and usability.

New Issues
These are items that have been added to the known issues page since the last milestone although the bugs themselves may have existed previously.

• The Linux binaries distributed by mozilla.org are now compiled with GCC 3.2. If you're using these binaries then you will need the 3.2 version of the Java Plugin from Sun J2SE v 1.4.2 (or the Blackdown JDK 1.4.1 compiled with GCC 3.2.) The Sun Java Plugin is compatible with modern Linux versions like Red Hat 8 or later and SuSE 8.1 or later (the plugin depends on a newer version of libgcc_s.so, installing the GCC supplements for Red Hat 7.3 -GCC 3.1 Compiler Suite for Red Hat Linux 7.3 - may allow for some older Red Hat Linux to run the plugin) Users of older Linux versions should either install the egcs 1.1.2 build of Mozilla and the JRE 1.4.1 or wait for a Mozilla version compiled specifically for their Linux distribution.
• If you're using the Linux GCC 3.2 binaries compiled by mozilla.org then JavaScript access to Flash will not work.

Ik snap niet helemaal waarom ze nu 1.4.1 uitbrengen, als de planning is dat 1.5 deze week gereleased gaat worden (RC2 er is al een tijdje). Ook Firebird 0.7 en Thunderbird 0.3 worden deze week verwacht.

De 1.0 werd ook doorontwikkeld toen 1.1 al uit was. Is gewoon een kwestie van features tegen fixes.

Ik gebruik zelf overgens een voor AthlonXP optimized build van mozilla firebird. Die is echt vet snel.

Dit is waarschijnlijk niet de plek om deze vraag te stellen, maar ook niet belangrijk genoeg om een GoT topic voor te openen. Ik kan op het forum waar je naar verwijst een Athlon XP optimized build vinden. Heb je een directe link?
Ik vermoed trouwens dat je hem zelf gecompileerd hebt voor linux? Ik ben op zoek naar een windows versie....

Zoek in het Firebird Builds forum van Mozillazine.org naar de topics van aebrahim. Hij heeft bijna dagelijks voor diverse architecturen nieuwe geoptimaliseerde builds die met Microsoft Visual C++ zijn gecompileerd. Het snelheidsverschil is merkbaar.

Vooral de opstarttijd, voor de rest merk ik het snelheidsverwschil niet echt (zelf even tweaken) in de adresbalk about:config openen en daarna de settings aanpassen.

Die gebruik ik ook, omdat ik Gentoo 1.4 gebruik voor Athlon XP....ik compile het zelf...

1.5 is een andere branch. Dat ze met een nieuwere tak bezig zijn, betekent bij Mozilla niet dat ze ophouden oudere takken te supporten (bugfixes etc.)

Weet iemand of het mogelijk is om Mozilla (of FireBird) te integreren met de ADDRESS-bar van Windows Explorer? Dit vind ik namelijk wel een handige feature in Windows; maar tot nog toe lanceert die bij mij altijd Internet Explorer...

Nee, dat kan niet. Die adres balk is namelijk de adres balk van Internet Explorer zelf. Dat is hetzelfde als je met de hand IE opstart en daar een url in de adres balk intikt, dan start ie ook geen mozilla
Maar vanuit andere applicaties wordt wel keurig Mozilla/Firebird gestart als je er een url aanklikt (bijvoorbeeld Outlook of mIRC), mits Mozilla als standaardbrowser is ingesteld.

Mozilla is een super browser! Geruik hem zelf al een poosje. Wat ik met de vorige versie nog wel eens had is dat de browser als taak op de achter grond ging draaien en dan 50% cpu power in gebruik nam.

We gaan eens kijken of dat verholpen is.

Inderdaad.. datzelfde probleem hed ik ook wel eens.. soms zelfs al mijn cpu power.
Voor de rest vind ik het echt een superprogramma. Bij mozilla zitten net de kleine aanvullingen bij die ik nog wou zien bij in browser.

Een mooie browser inderdaad, zitten toch wat opties bij die ik in firebird toch wel mis. Echter vind ik die niet van dermate belang dat ik mozilla boven firebird verkies, die daarbij ook wat sneller is.

Nieuw: er zit ook een spellchecker in.
Die zit wel in de 1.5x, maar die zat niet in 1.4

Mozilla is een mooie browser , maar ik had af en toe vreemde problemen met sommige sites. Als ik ga scrollen met het muiswieltje wordt het een flinke zooi. Het hele beeld raakt in de war.

Ik had gelezen dat dit een probleem is met ATI kaarten. Ik heb zelf een Geforce 2 MX.

Weet iemand of dit probleem al opgeslost is?

Ik had het probleem met firebird ook en heb ook een geforce 2mx.
Ik heb laatst een nieuwe nightly built gedownload en toen was het over.
