Software-update: CDDA Ripper XP 0.66

CDDA Ripper XP kan een CD omzetten naar MP3, OGG en WAV. Het programma werkt onder WIndows NT, 2000 en XP. De nieuwste release is 0.66 waarvan de release notes er als volgt uitzien:

CDDA Ripper XP is an audio (CD-DA) CD ripper program based on AKRip32. Provides support for NT/2000/XP natively (no ASPI manager required). It supports WAV, MP3, OGG, WMA encoding. It uses newest and quality encoders, like LAME 3.93.1 and OGG/Vorbis 1.0. Version 0.66 has new features and many bug fixes. Now CDDA Ripper XP can optionally use an external ASPI manager. This may solve the error "No cd-roms found" which appears in some systems. In this release fixed a bug related with the internal CD player (for systems with two CD-ROM drives), a bug that causes the Ok and Cancel button to not be displayed in track settings, a bug that causes the genre to not be saved properly in ID3 tag. An attemp to fix the crash that occures when trying to load the CDDB information of a CD title that has data tracks has been made.[break]Versie 0.7 is volop in ontwikkeling en zal support bieden voor onder andere WMA-encoding en het rippen van meerdere CD's tegelijk:[/break]Now I'm developing the upcoming version 0.7 which will have new features like ripping from multiple CD's, WMA encoding (finally!), channel up/down mixing. I did a code cleanup which fixed some multithread and settings serialization issues and I also made (at some minimal point) the main window resizeable. Version 0.7 will be released in April 2003.

Ziet er uitgebreid uit.

Toch mis ik aan al die rippers iets: dubbel inlezen.
CDDAE99 is volgens mij de enige die dit doet , maar ondersteund helaas geen CDDB of het eerst compleet inlezen en daarna pas een controleslag.

Volgens mij doet Exact Audio Copy alles wat jij wil. Dubbel inlezen? EAC leest het soms nog vaker in (max 82x dacht ik) als het programma er niet 100% van overtuigd is dat het goed gaat. In ieder geval leest EAC elke sector minimaal 2 keer.

Helaas, maar waarom iemand deze ripper zou willen gebruiken is mij een raadsel. Geen zogenaamde 'Secure' mode, dus geen 100% zekerheid op een perfecte rip. Als er een vuiltje op je cd of in je drive zit, zul je een grote kans hebben op tikjes en hikjes.

Dat ze ermee adverteren de 'laatste nieuwe encoders' te gebruiken is duidelijk een teken van hun eigen onmacht - deze laatste nieuwe encoders kun je allemaal zelf downloaden en met elk fatsoenlijk (rip-)programma gebruiken.

Exactaudiocopy doet het een stuk beter; alsook PlexTools voor de Plextor-drive bezitters onder ons.

In secure mode, this program reads every audio sector at least twice. That is one reason why the program is so slow. But by using this technique non-identical sectors are detected. If an error occurs (read or sync
error), the program keeps on reading this sector, until eight of 16 retries are identical, but at maximum one, three or five times (according to the error recovery quality) these 16 retries are read. So, in the worst case, bad sectors are read up to 82 times! But this will help the program to obtain best result by comparing all of the retries. If it is not sure that the stream is correct (at least it can be said at approx. 99.5%) the
program will tell the user where the (possible) read error occurred. The program also tries to adjust the jitter artefacts that occur on the first block of a track, so that each extraction should be exactly the same. On drives found to have the "accurate stream" feature, this is guaranteed.
