Opera is kort geleden gestopt met het ontwikkelen van zijn eigen browser-engine en overgestapt van Presto naar Blink, een afgeleide van Webkit. Blink bevat echter geen mailclient, die wel in de 'oude' Opera aanwezig was. Vandaar dat er nu onder de naam Opera Mail een losse client gebouwd is, waarvan zojuist de eerste final release verschenen is. Opera Mail is beschikbaar voor Windows en OS X. Daarnaast kan de mail van een Opera-account ook via een webbrowser worden benaderd.
