Calibre is een opensource- en crossplatform-e-bookbeheerprogramma. Het kan onder andere alle relevante informatie en kaftafbeeldingen opzoeken en e-boeken converteren om ze geschikt te maken voor de diverse soorten e-readers. Verder kan het kranten, tijdschriften en nieuwsartikelen op basis van rss-feeds omzetten in e-bookformaat, en kunnen er boeken worden aangeschaft bij de bekende webwinkels. Elke vrijdag verschijnt er een nieuwe versie en in deze release is onder meer de mogelijkheid toegevoegd om docx-documenten te converteren.

- Conversion of Microsoft Word documents (.docx files generated by Word 2007 or newer). DOCX files created with Microsoft Word 2007 or newer can now be converted by calibre. The converter has support for lists, tables, images, all types of text formatting, footnotes, endnotes and even dropcaps. A sample docx file showing the capabilities of the converter is available here. Note that this code is still very new, so there are more than likely a few bugs waiting to be squashed.

Zonder gekheid, de grote kracht van Calibre is juist dat ook na het importeren je bestanden altijd onaangetast blijven. Alle changes/aanpassingen gaan via de losse metadata bestanjes.
