Stardock is de maker van diverse programma's waarmee de Windows desktopomgeving kan worden aangepast. Een daarvan is Start8, waarmee een startknop en startmenu aan de desktop van Windows 8 kan worden toegevoegd. ModernMix is ook voor Windows 8 bedoeld en is in staat om de Windows 8-apps, die normaal gesproken beeldvullend draaien, in een apart venster op de desktop te draaien. Ook kunnen de Windows 8-apps als shortcut op de desktop of in de taakbalk worden geplaatst. ModernMix kost net als Start8 vijf dollar en kan eerst een maand worden getest.

- App settings menu now has options to force background sound On / Off. Note that if the app already supports background sound (say YouTube), the off setting has no effect.
