ZFSguru is een relatief jong project dat gebruikers in staat stelt om een computer in een NAS-server om te toveren, om zo bestanden te delen over het netwerk. In tegenstelling tot andere oplossingen is ZFSguru helemaal gebouwd rondom het geavanceerde ZFS-bestandssysteem, wat een solide bescherming biedt voor je bestanden en eigen raid-technieken toepast. In tegenstelling tot bijvoorbeeld FreeNAS is een ZFSguru-systeem naar wens aan te passen. Zo is bijvoorbeeld nieuwe software installeren een stuk makkelijker dan in FreeNAS, omdat er geen elementen van FreeBSD zijn wegbezuinigd. ZFSguru is te downloaden als LiveCD met FreeBDS 8.0 of 9.0 RC1, waarbij die laatste als 'experimenteel' aangeduid wordt. Kortgeleden is versie 0.1.9 uitgekomen en het changelog daarvan ziet er als volgt uit:

- Files page now has a separate page when destroying filesystems with children datasets like snapshots.
- Files page will now remove Samba shares when destroying shared filesystems.
- Files page now hides ZFSguru system filesystems by default, but allows unhiding them when desired.
- Improved the System->Preferences page with new options and better structure.
- System->Preferences page now allows adding CIDR prefixes like 192.168.1.0/24 instead of only accepting single IP addresses.
