Alwil Software heeft na de bèta van eerder deze week nu de final uitgebracht van het verbeterde Avast Antivirus 5.0. In versie 5 zijn de oude Home- en Professional-editions vervangen door Avast Free Antivirus en Avast Pro Antivirus, om duidelijker aan te geven welke versie gratis is en welke niet. Daarnaast is nu een versie beschikbaar die de naam Avast Internet Security draagt, met onder andere een firewall en spambestrijding als extra's. In de nieuwe versie zijn onder andere diverse nieuwe vertalingen toegevoegd, waaronder de Nederlandse. Verder kan nu ook een virusscan in Safe Mode worden uitgevoerd en zijn diverse problemen verholpen. Dit zijn de belangrijkste veranderingen sinds de vorige stabiele uitgave:
