De ontwikkelaars van Skype timmeren hard aan de weg met hun bekende Skype-applicatie op mobiele platforms. Zo is Skype inmiddels te gebruiken op de iPhone en zelfs de Sony PSP wordt ondersteund. Sinds het begin van deze maand is er eindelijk ook een Skype-smaak die op Symbian S60 v3- en v5-toestellen zijn werk doet. Momenteel worden alleen de toestellen van Nokia officieel ondersteund, maar men is achter de schermen druk bezig om de mobieltjes van andere fabrikanten aan de lijst toe te voegen. Het versienummer van deze Skype for Symbian-uitgave is vastgesteld op 1.0.3 voor Symbian S60 v3 en 1.0.4 voor Symbian S60 v5. De bijbehorende aankondiging ziet er als volgt uit:

I'm glad to announce Skype 1.0 for Symbian. We have had many users on the beta release of it giving us good feedback on the product and now we are ready to give it to everyone. Also some of you have been asking for a version of Skype for Symbian for touch screen handsets (Symbian S60 v5), particularly the Nokia 5800.
