Driver-update: ATI Catalyst 8.6

ATI heeft namelijk woensdagavond onder de noemer Catalyst 8.6 nieuwe drivers voor zijn Radeon-videokaarten uitgebracht. De nieuwe stuurprogramma's zijn vanaf deze pagina voor Windows XP en Windows Vista te downloaden en zijn voorzien van een flinke waslijst aan veranderingen en verbeteringen. De grootste verbetering is dat het volgens ATI niet meer nodig is om de computer te rebooten nadat Catalyst 8.6 geïnstalleerd is. Verder zijn de nodige prestatieverbeteringen voor onder meer 3dMark Vantage, Lost Planet, Call Of Duty 4, Crysis en Bioshock doorgevoerd. Daarnaast geeft ATI een lijst met bekende problemen die nog verholpen moeten worden. Hieronder zijn de release notes van Catalyst 8.6 gepost. Performance Improvements
  • 3DMark Vantage:10 to 15% gains across all Radeon™ HD 3xxx and HD 2xxx products, with larger gains in specific cases.
  • Call of Duty 4: Performance increases across all Radeon™ HD 3xxx and HD 2xxx products, with gains as large as 35% in specific maps.
  • Call of Juarez DX10: Performance increases between 2 and 9% across all HD 3xxx and HD 2xxx products
  • Company of Heroes (DX10 version): Performance increases between 4 and 10% across HD 36xx and HD 34xx products.
  • Lost Planet (DX10 version): Performance increases by 1 or 2 fps across all HD 3xxx and HD 2xxx products, creating in some cases up to 20% increase.
  • Lost Planet (DX9 version): Performance increases between 2 and 20% across all HD 3xxx and HD 2xxx products
  • Prey OpenGL: 3-5% gains across HD 3xxx and HD 2xxx products.
  • Quake 4 OpenGL: Up to 8% increase across all HD 3xxx and HD 2xxx products.
  • Shadermark 2.1: Minor improvements across all HD 3xxx and HD 2xxx products, with the largest gains appearing on HD 3650 (up to 9%)
  • ViewPerf 10: Substantial performance improvements across several of the sub-tests, with the largest gains in ugnx (up to 55%), catia (up to 17%) and tcvis (up to 10%) across all of the HD 3xxx and HD 2xxx products.

alstublieft :)
Krijgen we natuurlijk weer een hotfix voor agp...Maar waar ik ook op zit te wachten is dat ze (vanaf 7.11 en hoger) die OPENGL32 eens verbeteren..Er zit vanaf die versies namelijk een soort muis input lag in! Op geen enkele manier weg te krijgen (heeft o.a wel te maken met vsync enzo heb ik gemerkt..)
Hotfix is er al, staat op de 8.5 hotfix pagina (ze zijn vergeten 8.5 in de tekst en link aan te passen naar 8.6).

staat bij dat het over direct X gaat op agp graphics cards...
weet je zeker dat het de juiste link is?

ik herken het probleem wat ToFast beschrijft precies uit homeworld2 en op die link word het niet beschreven...

Ja, is de juiste link, weet het zeker :-) De tekst die erbij staat is inderdaad nogal vreemd, e.g. het is niet mijn probleem, maar zo bieden ze de AGP-Hotfix versie aan. Dat ie zo lastig en vreemd te vinden is, is vooral denk ik omdat ze willen dat mensen de hotfix bij hun fabrikant downloaden, omdat ATi zelf geen support/ondersteuning geeft voor de AGP-versies van de HD2xxx/HD3xxx (modellen zijn niet gecertificeerd door ATi).

As for OpenGL. De details weet ik er niet van, maar ATi heeft na 7.11 OpenGL nogal op de schop genomen, maar in negatieve zin. Vooral kaalgeplukt en zaken eruit gehaald. Als je wat Googled vind je ook wel een aantal word-arounds om OpenGL uit 7.11 te halen en die op de 8.x install te zetten.

Die hotfixes enzo, zit dat dan niet gewoon mee ingebakken in de AMD ATI Catalyst 8.6 drivers???

Er blijven kennelijk nog genoeg problemen over bij ATI om een heel jaar fixes te blijven rondsturen. Ben trouwens van de week terug gegaan van 8.5 naar 8.4 in verband met wat vreemde coruptieproblemen. Ik vind het opmerkelijk dat ik iedere maand een ATI driver zie en tegenwoordig zelden Nvidia drivers gaat het wel helemaal goed in Canada vraag ik me daarom af. :?
Wat een onzin, drivers zijn JUIST goed. Het is echt niet dat er zoveel bugs in de drivers zitten dat er zo vaak updates zijn.

Het gaat juist om optimalisaties voor nieuwe games (of games die nog uit moeten komen), waarbij je moet denken aan optimalisaties aan de shaders en het toevoegen van Crossfire profielen voor de verschillende applicaties. Daarnaast natuurlijk om de renderbugs zoals artifacts en pixellation weg te werken.

Het is juist goed als een bedrijf vaak drivers uit brengt (tenzij het allemaal kleine beta's zijn). ATi komt elke maand netjes met een driver met een hele waslijst aan fixes, dat is wel anders bij bedrijven zoals Creative (zie de X-Fi series).
Het releaseschema van ATI is zo gebouwd dat er elke maand een nieuwe driver moet zijn. Als er geen fixes zijn gaan ze wel performanceverbeteringen aanbrengen. Ik vind dat persoonlijk beter dan het naar mijn idee vrij willekeurige schema van NVIDIA.
Wat ik me nou altijd afvraag: die improvements en fixes die ze doen, zijn die echt allemaal game specifiek? Of zijn het bugs in de drivers zelf die ze fixen? Je zou toch verwachten dat als de DX-specs goed zijn, de drivers voldoen aan de specs, dat er dan eigenlijk 'geen' (visuele) bugs meer zichtbaar moeten zijn in spellen. Iemand een idee?
Het lijkt mij dat het om shader aanpassingen gaan, en dus wel game specifiek.
vandaar dat ze ook soms zulke grote performance verbeteringen kunnen doen en tegelijk een bug oplossen in het game.

om deze reden zullen gra-ka bakkers ook geld neer leggen zodat ze eerder toegang hebben tot de shader code.
De grootste verbetering is dat het volgens ATI niet meer nodig is om de computer te rebooten nadat Catalyst 8.6 geïnstalleerd is.

Dat heb ik gemerkt ja, CCC start niet meer, en mijn dual setup was door de war. Lekker altijd die ati driver updates.

Ik weet niet wat dat is, bij Nvidia gaat dat altijd smooth, maar bij ati heb ik 9 van de 10 keer gezeik met updaten (dat ie iconen herschikt, of dat resolutie ineens veranderd is)
Doe je toch iets fout heb nooit probs met de ATi drivers. En die nVidia drivers vooral controll pannel laten te wensen over. Dat is ook de rede dat de 8800 GT die ik had al snel weer weg was.
de iconen waren bij mij inderdaad ook allemaal naar linksboven verplaatst, en mijn dreamscene moest ik herstarten. Plus dat hij bij mij wel vroeg om te herstarten. 8)7
Daarnaast is een performance increase natuurlijk altijd welkom. ;)
Dat mijn Dual setup door de war is heb ik bij mijn 7900 ook gehad hoor ;) dat is denk ik eerder windows die denkt dat er een andere kaart in zit dan nieuwe drivers


anyways, kan niet wachten to vanavond, hopelijk doet mijn 4850 het nu ook wat beter, de performance was nu soms lichtelijk onder de maat van mijn 7900GT :P
Ze zijn daar lekker aan het werk bij ATi netjes :)

Ja, als er een is die ondersteuning geeft bij hun producten is het Ati/AMD wel :)
Denk dat ik maar even wacht totdat de driver bij windows update te krijgen is, ik hoop ook dat ze misschien wel 'mijn specifieke' probleem opgelost hebben.

Sinds dat ik een 3870 heb kan ik geen games spelen op 1ste scherm en een 'video' op het 2de scherm zonder dat mijn pc genadeloos reset. Het irritante is ook dat ik geen enkele vorm van een foutmelding kan vinden/krijgen of te zien krijg maakt niet uit of dat met of zonder CCC is 8.4/8.5 hebben dit probleem met de 3870 maar op mijn oudere 1900xt en 1950xtx is het weer geen probleem in dezelfde computer.

Ook mis ik de optie om VPU recover uit te zetten al een tijdje, dit deed ik via Rivatuner of Atitools laatste keer toch dit lost ook dat probleem niet op dit heeft weer wel het crashen in een aantal andere games opgelost met 8.4, 8.5 had dit probleem weer niet.
Deze driver zul je alleen krijgen bij vista, en zelfs DIE wordt NIET elke maand zoals deze aangeleverd.

Waarom wachten op een 3e partij, gewoon downloaden en knallen met die hap deste eerder is je probleem mogelijk de wereld uit. En VPU recover kan ik aan/uit zetten met mijn Asus EAH3650 dus moet volgens mij voor jou ook gewoon werken als je misschien niet de Windows Update versie hebt want die komt volgens mij zonder Catalyst Control Center.
Helaas staat mijn HD2400XT in me laptop er nog steeds niet bij in de ATI Catalyst™ Mobility 8.6. En dat terwijl het toch niet echt lekker werkt :(
Lijkt wel of dat van ondergeschikt belang is de laptop markt want de hele 2x00 serie staat er niet bij, alleen oude(ere) kaarten. Jammer...
er is op internet wel te vinden hoe je je ini file kan aanpassen zodat het wel werkt.
bij mobile's is het eigenlijk de bedoeling dat je de drivers bij je laptop fabricant vandaan haalt. dus kijk anders daar eerst eens.
Ja weet ik, heb ik ook gedaan, helaas nog niet alles opgelost :(
Dat is een beslissing van de laptopfabrikant en niet van AMD/ATi.
Ach gewoon Handmatig als HD2400 Installeren doe ik ook altijd bij de HD2600 in de laptop van me vriendin. Werkt tot nu toe altijd.
Dan heb je normaalgesproken geen powerplay, wat er op neer komt dat je gpu zich niet terugklokt en de laptop meer stroom verbruikt/warmer wordt.
Mijn 3DmarkVantage gaat inderdaad een stuk omhoog. Ik ga van 4900 naar 5305 punten. Dat is dus 8.2 procent ongeveer, niet 10-15%, maar toch wel een verbetering.

kan ook dat je cpu (of iets anders) de bottleneck is,
dan kloppen hun gegevens wel.

Indrukwekkende lijst met fixes!

Ik ben enorm benieuwd naar de fixes voor CoD4. Heb al een tijdje last van grafische lag in enkele custom maps namelijk... en dan vooral in spawnpoints.

Maar goed, we zullen zien vanavond :)
