Woensdag is er na lange tijd weer eens een nieuwe versie uitgekomen in de ontwikkeltak van de opensource audio-editor Audacity. Het programma, dat beschikbaar is voor Windows, Linux en Mac OS X, kan geluid opnemen, wav-, aiff-, ogg- en mp3-bestanden importeren en exporteren en heeft een ongelimiteerde undo-functie. Daarnaast heeft Audacity een hoop effecten aan boord, zoals fade-in en fade-out, echo, tempo veranderen en ruisonderdrukking. Meer effecten kunnen eenvoudig worden toegevoegd, want het programma ondersteunt zowel vst- als ladspa-plugins. Het changelog van deze release laat de volgende veranderingen zien:
Recording / PlaybackImport / Export
- Several bugs fixed so that latency correction should be better, and more devices work correctly.
- Problems with invalid sample rates under Linux should be much rarer.
- Newer version of Portaudio library.
- New feature to record onto the end of an existing track (hold Shift while clicking Record).

- Language can now be changed without restart.
- Expanded Build Information tab.

- New Vocal Remover plug-in, improvements for Generate effects.
Security
- Fixes when building Audacity with libraries disabled.
- Improvements to make Mac and Solaris builds easier.
Miscellaneous
- Full fix for issue CVE-2007-6061 on systems where temporary directories can be changed by other users.
