Driver-update: ATi Catalyst 7.12

AMD logo (60 pix) Advanced Micro Devices heeft op de valreep nog een twaalfde editie van zijn Catalyst-release voor dit jaar voor de ATi Radeon-videokaarten uit weten te brengen. De driver is beschikbaar voor Windows XP en Vista, in zowel de 32bits-, 64bits- en Media Center-uitvoering en zijn geschikt voor alle Radeon-modellen vanaf de 9500-serie. Onderaan deze posting zijn voor het gemak de directe links te vinden naar de pagina's waar de beschikbare downloads staan. Deze release bevat de gebruikelijke lange lijst met verbeteringen en een verzameling van problemen die reeds bekend zijn, maar waar de oplossing nog niet voor is meegeleverd. Resolved Issues for the Windows Vista Operating System
  • Call of Duty: Enabling Super AA and CrossFire no longer results in the game failing to respond when the player dies.
  • Combat Mission: Shock Force Demo v1.02: Setting the ATI left-click compatibility option to off and starting a new battle no longer results in the game failing to respond when clicking the left mouse button on various options within the game.
  • Crysis: Momentary corruption is no longer noticed when playing the game.
  • Crysis: The ice level is no longer too bright which was making the game nonplayable.
  • Dark Messiah, Might and Magic, or Sin Episodes: Too much fog or incorrect fog no longer occurs during game play. This issue was known to occur on systems containing an ATI Radeon HD 2x00 series of product.
  • El Matador: Shadow corruption is no longer noticed throughout the game.
  • Enemy Territory: Quake Wars: Enabling Super AA and soft particles no longer results in corruption being noticed in the main menu and through-out game play.
  • FEAR: The slow motion visual effects is now functioning.
  • FlightSim X: Playing the game on a system running Windows Vista and containing an ATI Radeon HD 2900 series of product no longer results in the shadows being incorrect or failing to appear.
  • Google Sketchupno longer fails to pan when AA is enabled on systems containing an ATI Radeon X1300/1550/1600 series of product.
  • GTA San Andreas: Enabling AA within the game and within the Catalyst Control Center no longer results in the game failing to start.
  • GTA: San Andreas: Enabling high quality settings within the game no longer results in Vsync loss, no video, or artifact corruption.
  • Hellgate: MSAA is now working with the DX10 version of the game.
  • Hellgate: Screen flashing or the game failing no longer occurs when attempting to start a multiplayer game on a system running Windows Vista and containing an ATI Radeon HD 2600 series of product.
  • Infernal: the game no longer fails when attempting to launch a new game.
  • Lord of the Rings Return of the King: The game background no longer flashes when CrossFire is enabled.
  • Lost Planet: Setting the in-game options to maximum along with AA ste to 2x and AF set to 16x no longer results in corruption being noticed when CrossFiore is enabled.
  • Quake 4: Enabling CrossFire and setting the in game options to 1600x1200 and AA to 4x no longer results in corruption being noticed.
  • The Sims 2: Flickering and corruption are no longer noticed in certain areas of the game.
  • World in Conflict: Setting the in-game AA option to 4x and running the benchmark no longer results in flickering being noticed.
  • When running certain OpenGL samples, the ATI Radeon graphics adapter now runs at the requested clock values on a CrossFire configured system.
  • Catalyst Control Center: German character are no longer truncated in the ProfileManager Applications tab.
  • Connecting a secondary display device to a system containing an ATI Radeon x1200/1250/1270 series of product and enabling clone mode or extended desktop mode no longer results in horizontal line corruption being noticed when using a high refresh rate and display resolution.
  • Connecting a secondary display device no longer results in the Anisotropic Filtering option being missing for second adapter until the system is rebooted.
  • Connecting a secondary display device to a system containing an ATI Radeon x1200/1250/1270 series of product and enabling clone mode or extended desktop mode no longer results in horizontal line corruption being noticed when using a high refresh rate and display resolution.

  • Setting the display device to 1600x1200 75Hz no longer results in the HD DVD playback window appearing blank.
  • TV corruption is no longer noticed when using an ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 series of product.
  • A black screen is no longer displayed at the DVD menu when using WinDVD8 to play a DVD title with DXVA enabled.
  • Rotating the display device when playing a DVD using the WinDVD player no longer results in the display going blank.
  • Connecting a display device via Component Video as the primary display device and a DFP as a secondary display device no longer results in extended desktop mode failing to be applied.
  • Cyberlink: Playing an h.264 disk no longer results in corruption being noticed on the lower portion of the playback window.
  • Disabling CrossFire no longer results in a secondary display device being out of range on the secondary ASIC.
  • Installing two Radeon HD 2400 series of products into one system no longer results in the AA filter box failing to become greyed out when enabling CrossFire and setting AA to 8x.
  • Playing an HD-DVD title using the Cyberlink player no longer results in corruption or the Windows Vista operating system failing to respond after a short period of playback time.
  • Setting the display resolution to either 1776x1024 or 1920x1024 30i no longer results in the display devices failing to resume from an S3 state.

  • DIRT: Launching DIRT with CrossFire enabled no longer results in the application failing to launch and an error message being displayed.
  • Enemy Territory Quake Wars: Flickering is no longer noticed when SuperAA is enabled.
  • Enemy Territory Quake Wars: Setting the in-game options to 2560x1600 and soft particles, along with AA to 8x in the Catalyst Control Center no longer results in corruption being noticed.
  • Globe 2.1: Corruption is no longer noticed during the introduction video when CrossFire is enabled.
  • Loki demo: Launching the demo no longer results in the introduction movie failing to display.
  • STALKER: Flickering is no longer noticed when playing the game with AA set to 4x and full dynamic lighting is enabled.
  • STALKER: The operating system no longer fails when attempting to play the game with CrossFire enabled and all in-game options set to maximum.
  • HD Audio is now working when setting the desktop resolution to 640x480@60Hz under the Windows XP operating system.
  • Enabling CrossFire and entering hibernation mode no longer results in the Windows XP operating system failing when attempting to resume from hibernation mode.
  • Hot un-plugging the DFP display device when clone mode is enable no longer results in the DFP display device still appearing in the Catalyst Control Center.
  • HD-DVD content is no longer blocked over native HDMI when using the cyberlink player.
  • Connecting an HDMI display device as the secondary display no longer results in extended desktop mode failing when attempting to apply it.
  • Entering hibernation mode under Windows XP no longer results in the operating system hanging when attempting to resume from hibernation mode.

  • Disconnecting display device no longer results in the ability to enable the dis-connected display device within the Catalyst Control Center in a CrossFire configured system.
  • Connecting a TV as the primary display device and setting the signal format to any PAL mode no longer results in corruption being noticed on the secondary display device when playing a media file using WinAmp or WinDVD.
  • The Enable ATI Overdrive clocks for 3D applications only checkbox is now checked and grayed out when the OverDrive option in the Catalyst Control Center is unlocked.
  • Corruption is no longer noticed when enabling Theater mode and enabling clone mode.
  • Dragging the WinDVD player from the primary display to the secondary display no longer results in the player failing to respond. Further, closing the WinDVD player using the Task Manager may result in the operating system failing to respond.
  • With some h.264 titles that have MPEG2 intros, playback no longer switches from hardware accelerated to software once the introductory content is finished.
  • On certain products, dragging player window from primary to secondary display no longer results in hardware acceleration being disabled which resulted in the CPU usage increasing.
  • DXVA is now in use when play H264/VC1 HD content on systems containing an ATI Radeon HD 2600 series of product.
  • Enabling tiling on the secondary display device when Overlay Theater Mode is enable no longer result in corruption being noticed.
  • Corruption is no longer noticed on the secondary display device when Overlay Theater Mode is enabled.
  • Enabling clone mode no longer results in corruption being noticed on both display devices when Overlay Theater mode is enabled and the 3D screen saver becomes active.
Resolved Issues for the Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
  • Prey: Corruption is no longer noticed when a player's face is two toned.
  • Catalyst Control Center->OverDrive: The Windows XP Professional x64 Edition operating system no longer fails to resume from sleep mode when the ATI OverDrive page is active.
Known Issues Under the Windows Vista Operating System
  • City of Heroes: Attempting to play the game on a system with a dual link panel connected to it may result in the Windows Vista operating system failing to respond.
  • Half-Life 2: Episode 2: Playing the game on a system containing an ATI Radeon HD 3800 series of product no longer results in the game failing to the desktop when CrossFire is enabled.
  • Lost Planet: Setting AA to either 4x or 8x may result in the game failing to respond.
  • Oblivion: Flickering may be noticed when first making a move if the in-game settings are set to maximum, CrossFire is enabled and AF is set to 16x.
  • Oblivion: The game may fail or display corruption may be noticed when the game is minimized to desktop and then restored.
  • Unreal Tournament 3: The game may intermittently fail to launch when a map has texture detail set to maximum.
  • World In Conflict: The game may fail to the Windows desktop when the display resolution is set to 1280x768 and AF is set to 16x.
  • Resuming from an S3 state may result in a longer than expected time for the Windows Vista operating system to resume.
  • Catalyst Control Center->OverDrive: The OverDrive setting are not retained for individual accounts.
  • The Record function currently fails to work when using an ATI All-In-Wonder X1300 and time shifting is enabled.

  • City of Heroes: A fatal error message may be displayed when exiting the game and attempting to launch the Catalyst Control Center in Advanced mode.
  • Enemy Territory: Quake Wars may have corruption on the water and sky after increasing the game resolution. Restarting the game at that higher resolution or issuing reloadImages command in the game console corrects the corruption. This issue only impacts graphics cards up to the ATI Radeon X850.
  • Lost Planet: Setting AA to either 4x or 8x may intermittently result in the game failing to respond.
  • Star Wars Battlefront 2: Setting the in-game options as follows: Overall Quality to High, View Distance to 99, LOD Distance to 99 and Anti-Aliasing to 6x may result in the game's loading bar reaching the end but the game failing to start.
  • Enabling CrossFire may result in display corruption being noticed when playing a DVD or media clip using either WinDVD 7, Windows Media Player or PowerDVD 6.
  • Catalyst Control Center->OverDrive: The OverDrive setting are not retained for individual accounts. This issue may also be experienced under the Windows Vista operating system.
  • Connecting two display devices to an ATI Radeon X1600 series product may result in the device manager failing to detect the secondary display device.
  • Installing the HDMI audio driver and the VIA audio chipset driver may results in a compatibility issue being noticed and a yellow exclamation mark showing up in the Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
  • Installing the Catalyst Control Center on a previously installed version may results in a warning message that the setup is installing over an earlier version, and that the previous version needs to be uninstalled before installing a more current version, resulting in the Catalyst Control Center failing to be installed.
  • Performing a fast user switch when running overfly.exe in Overlay Theater Mode may result in overfly.exe failing when switching back.
  • Catalyst Control Center: Configuring a system with multi-adapters may result in an error message being displayed when running the Test Custom Clocks.
  • Connecting a CRT display device as the secondary display and playing a Blu-ray DVD using a Cyberlink player may result in no video playback if extended desktop mode is enabled.
  • Connecting a Dual Link Panel to the on-board DVI port, followed by hot plugging a DVI display to the add-on DVI card may result in clone mode becoming disabled when rebooting the machine and the secondary display device remaining blank.
  • The movement of pictures may not appear smooth under Excel (Office2007) when the color depth is set to 16bpp.
  • The Catalyst Control Center menu option may fail to function when changing the skin from system skin to any other available skin.

  • The floppy drive may fail to read or write under Vista on Dell XPS410 system.

  • FAR CRY: Playing the game on a system running either the Windows XP Professional x64 Edition or Windows XP operating system may result in corruption being noticed when using an ATI Radeon Xpress 1200 series of products.
  • Running an OpenGL application and attempting to rotate the desktop may result in corruption being noticed.

tegelijk zijn overigens ook de Linux drivers uitgebracht waar een hoop belangrijke bugfixes inzitten zoals de memory leaks en veel andere problemen die mensen met AGP kaarten hadden.

Hier nog een linkl naar de driver voor linux.
Ik ben benieuwd of Ati deze keer eens fatsoenlijke Linux drivers heeft gemaakt. Ik zit al maanden te klooien met brakke Ati drivers. En des te nieuwer de drivers, des te slechter ze wel lijken te werken. De drivers van 19 november spannen in mijn geval de kroon. Bah.
Ja ik heb er ook problemen mee. Deze Catalyst 7.12 zou de memory leaks fixen, dus dan kun je iig OpenGL stuff draaien zonder dat je geheugen vol raakt.

Als je alleen een driver zoekt om een fatsoenlijke resolutie en standaard dingetjes te doen, kan ik je de RadeonHD-driver aanbevelen. Deze driver is in een pre-alpha-fase van ontwikkeling, heeft nog geen 2d/3d acceleratie, geen tv-out en dat soort dingen, maar toch is het al een fijne driver. Je kunt o.a. video's afspelen, ook fullscreen; zonder video tearing, stotteren en dergelijke. Resoluties en spul wordt ook allemaal ondersteund en dergelijke. Echt een aanrader.
Zal mij benieuwen of 7.12 de "atikmdag driver reset" issues oplost, waar veel gebruikers last van hebben.
Ik hoop dat dit inderdaad opgelost is.
Een keer in de zoveel tijd krijg ik steeds "atikmdag driver reset" melding.
Soms wordt het beeld zwart en krijg ik helemaal geen beeld meer.
Alleen een computer reset werkt dan.

Ik heb hier geen last van met mijn Asus HD2900XT 512 MB ism Vista x64 business.
Met de HD2900XT @ Stock en E6850 en 2GB DDR800 op DX9.0c in Crysis Benchmark Tool 1.05

met Ati Catalyst 7.10 CCC Optimal Quality
1680x1050 all high noAA: avarage 16.62 fps

1280x1024 all high noAA: avarage 21.86 fps

Geen verschil in performance merkbaar maar het ziet er wel veel mooier en vloeiender uit én er zijn absoluut geen artifacts meer zichtbaar. Dus 7.12 is in dit opzicht wel zeker een verbetering!

Dit is opzich wel vreemd, een daling in performance, maar het ziet er exact zo gelikt uit als in Optimal Quality, dus het lijkt alsof deze pré-settings geen effect meer hebbeb op in ieder geval Crysis.

Meet hem eens door met FRAPS? Kijken naar minimum framerates, daar ben ik wel benieuwd naar :)

P.S. Remco Kramer, die versie werkt alleen als je laptop bouwer het toelaat en dat doen de meeste niet..... Heel vervelend...
pfff zo nu kan ik weer rustig slapen (tot de volgende update natuurlijk) ;)
Een vraag: Waarom flikkert het scherm altijd als je windows opstart? Ik weet dat dit word veroorzaakt door Catalyst.. maar hoe het voorkomen kan worden weet ik niet, iemand mss een oplossing/oorzaak? (ik gebruik een x1950 pro 512MB)
Dat komt door Catalyst Control Center. Zorg ervoor dat dat ding niet meer automatisch opstart. Wil je nog wel bepaalde functies blijven gebruiken, probeer dan eens ATI tray tools. Heb geen last meer van flikkerende zooi en kan toch nog een hoop instellingen aanpassen, direcht vanuit me system tray. CCC start zo traaaaaaaaaaag...
Zou het komen, door het feit dat het op .net 2.0 leunt? Ik heb zelf altijd problemen met applicaties die daar op leunen.
Ik heb een HD2400 PRO kaart, win vista 32bit. 7.11 werkte niet. Weet iemand of 7.12 wel werkt? Kan het niet in deze lijst vinden.

Wat je kan proberen is de drivers van andere merken te downloaden,
Deze zijn vaak 7.11 of 7.10 ,
7.12 zit er nog niet bij , ik zoek daar ook naar want hardware decoding van hd video werkt niet goed.

Ik ben vrij newb en heb al wat gegoogled maar ben er nog niet uit. Ik wil de beste kwaliteit uit mijn Sapphire X1900XTX halen en weet niet of ik nou in catalyst: MULTI-SAMPLING of SUPER-SAMPLING als methode moet selecteren...Iemand die mij hier antwoord op kan geven?
voor zover ik weet zit het zo:

multisampling: het beeld word domweg vergroot opgebouwd, en daarna teruggeschaald.

Supersampling: AA is wat geoptimaliseerd, de gpu kan wat meer dingen berekenen.

daarom kies ik over het algemeen altijd supersampling, maar misschien kan iemand mij verbeteren of hier meer over vertellen.
Multisampling: alleen de randen van polygonen worden meerdere keren gesampled (vandaar "multi sample"). Afhankelijk van de instelling wordt dit dus 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x gesampled.

Supersampling: het hele scherm wordt meerdere keren gerenderd, maar telkens wordt het beeld een klein beetje verschoven zodat het op een andere positie staat. Ook hier geldt, 2x, 4x, 8x etc. Omdat het hele scherm opnieuw wordt gerenderd worden ook de textures scherper.

Performance is bij multisampling lager omdat hier minder gerenderd hoeft te worden (randen vs hele scherm). Daarom is multisampling antialiasing (MSAA) de voorkeursmethode en wordt supersampling haast niet gebruikt (behalve dan voor de die-hard IQ fanaat die het niet erg vind om minder framerates te hebben).

MSAA wordt ook vaak in games zelf ingesteld.

Als er bij een X1900XTX tussen supersampling of multisampling gekozen moet worden, dan kan het niet anders dan dat het hier gaat om Adaptive AA. Daar heb je namelijk de mogelijkheid om te kiezen tussen supersampling en multisampling.

Let er wel op dat de performance hit bij Adaptive AA groter is dan bij normale AA, omdat hier nu ook transparante textures (vaak gebruikt bij hekwerk, struiken, bomen/bladeren, gras, etc) gerenderd wordt. De keuze voor supersampling of multisampling heeft dan alleen op die transparante textures invloed, en niet op het gehele beeld.

Doorgaans is multisampling wat vriendelijker voor de framerate en het beeld doet wat betreft IQ niet veel onder voor supersampling. Adaptive AA op Multisampling, en de optie naast Smooth (2de van links) geeft in mijn ogen het beste effect.
Ik heb al een tijdje niet geupdate omdat er problemen zouden zijn als je een AGP kaart had. Is dit inmiddels al opgelost?

Ik heb zelf WinXP met een X1950 512mb AGP en zou graag weer willen updaten, misschien kan dat de nodige boost geven bij sommige games!

op de his 1950 pro 512mb Agp versie hier werkt het zpnder problemen,ook alle tests van dxdiag zijn goed,alle versnelling aanwezig.
Idem hier, op de Sapphire, 512mb x1950pro. Geen problemen, stabiel. Maar goed, ik had met de vorige versie ook al helemaal geen problemen.

XP Pro. 2gb pc3200 ram, en een P4P800 bordje, met een 3.0 ghz procje.
zal ik nu ook eindelijk eens m'n vista drives kunnen updaten.. ik heb iedere x als ik een andere driver dan de standaard vista drivers voor m'n x800 installeer dat ik half zwart beeld heb ik de mediacenter van vista..

maar we gaan het weer proberen.
