Met het programma Miranda IM is het mogelijk om verschillende instant-messagingnetwerken te benaderen, waardoor je vanuit één programma kan communiceren met mensen op deze netwerken. Zo is ondersteuning voor ICQ, MSN, IRC en Jabber standaard al aanwezig maar door plug-ins te gebruiken worden ook Gadu-Gadu, Tlen en vele andere ondersteund. De ontwikkelaars hebben alweer de negende preview release van Miranda IM 0.7.0 vrijgegeven voorzien van de volgende veranderingen:
