Software-update: BitComet 0.85

De bittorrent-client BitComet is zojuist bijgewerkt naar versie 0.85. Dit programma heeft ondersteuning voor DHT, het downloaden van torrents zonder tracker en het alvast kunnen bekijken van een deel van een film die nog aan het downloaden is. Ook is het mogelijk om zelf een torrent aan te maken en te seeden. Daarnaast kunnen ip-adressen worden geweerd en kan er met andere BitCometgebruikers worden gechat. Hoewel nergens het woord bèta genoemd wordt, valt wel op de website van BitComet te lezen dat versie 0.70 de laatste stabiele versie is. Hieronder zijn alle veranderingen te vinden die in het programma zijn aangebracht sinds de vorige vermelding in de meuktracker:

Ik vraag me nu al tijden af wat nou beter is? uTorrent of BitComet... En ik kom er maar niet uit. Gebruik op dit moment uTorrent aangezien ik het gevoel heb dat die iets sneller download... Maar iemand een idee welk het beste is? Of miss nog een andere weten die beter is?

Mooie van Bitcomet vond ik zelf altijd de ondersteuning voor pnp

uTorrent zonder twijfel. Bitcomet is wel snel maar wordt nog steeds gebanned door verscheidene plekken en degene die Bitcomet weer tijdelijk toelieten beginnen het nu weer te sluiten. Dit keer waarschijnlijk niet vanwege de leech code die aanwezig is maar het belabberde gedrag van velen die bitcomet gebruiken.

Het gerucht gaat dat Bitcomet vaker connect naar de tracker dan de tracker aangeeft, zodat je een grotere kans hebt dat je connect met een verse peer, en dus mogelijk sneller download. Dat is egoïstisch, omdat je dan de server extra belast ten koste van je eigen gewin.

Een ander gerucht is dat Bitcomet andere peers met Bitcomet voorrang zou geven, ten koste van peers met een andere client.

Maar dit zijn geruchten, ik heb nog geen duidelijk bewijs gezien dat dit echt zo is, of misschien is het gefixed een van de vele beta's.

Volgens mij zijn beide clients ongeveer even snel met een juist geconfigureerde router en firewall. Beiden ondersteunen DHT en geen Azureus DHT. Misschien is Bitcomet trager omdat een aantal trackers (vooral private) de client weren.

Ik zou daarom gewoon bij µTorrent blijven. De ontwikkelaar van µTorrent komt veel professioneler over dan de ontwikkelaars van Bitcomet, getuige de compactheid, weinige bugs en doordachte opzet.

bitcommect schijnt lack te hebben aan de torrent protocols.

het is duidelijk merkbaar als je op een tracker komt waar ze bitcommet en clones toestaan ... ze zijn niet erg prettig voor overige gebruikers ... veelal kijg ik op zulke trackers een onodig trage download ook lijkt het er op dat de meeste commet gebruikers meer aan een snelle leech denken dan aan fair file sharing.
µtorrent heeft ook all geruime tijd PnP ondersteunt
DHT heeft het ook all een aardig poosje
voordeel van µtorrent is dat je hem ook kunt installeren als je geen java hebt wat bijvoorbeeld nodig is bij azureus.
het bannen van een ip lijkt mij een slechte zaak ... als het nou gebaseerd is op een client die continu verkeerde data verstuurd oke ... maar de spirit van file sharing kan aardig worden aangetast als we op client nivo een ip kunnen blocken ... als het is bedoelt om leechers te blocken dan vind dat meer iets wat op een tracker thuis hoort.

of begrijp ik het verkeerd en is dat ip blokeren een future als je bitcommet als tracker draait ?????

wat betreft de snelheid van torrent clients .. het is aardig om snel te kunnen kijken, luisteren, spelen of installeren van je download ...
het grootste probleem blijft de meestal trage uploads die ISP's geven.

ik zou het prettig vinden als er een client komt die bij alle downloaded torrents kijkt waar er het hardst upload nodig is.

Let er wel op dat verschillende sites deze client niet accepteren omdat hij niet op de corecte maniet omgaat met de privat taf (en daardoor de hoeveelheid upload niet juist doorgeeft)

Zeg het dan wel goed ! BitComet ging niet goed om met de 'private tag' van een torrent. Trackers die deze client, na maanden dat het al gefixed is, nog steeds verbannen, worden gewoon gerunned door amateurs.

En het probleem met de 'private tag' was niet zozeer dat de uploaded data niet juist werd doorgegeven, maar dat mensen die niet lid waren van een tracker, ook de torrent konden downloaden.

Zolang ook mensen op private trackers DHT aan hebben staan, kan je via DHT gewoon van een private tracker downen (met uTorrent in ieder geval).

Torrents met een "private tag" zetten DHT (voor die torrent) uit in je cliënt, en dat kan je dan ook voor die torrent niet meer aanzetten. Dus in de praktijk heeft niemand dan DHT aanstaan en kan er dus niemand via DHT van die private tracker downloaden
