VisualRoute is in oorsprong een grafische tegenhanger van het 'tracert' commando, waarmee je kan bekijken via welke weg je datapakketen over het netwerk worden verstuurd. In de loop van de tijd zijn er meer opties toegevoegd zoals een whois reporter en een eMailTracker waarmee e-mail servers geïdentificeerd kunnen worden.
