Software-update: Damn Small Linux 3.0.1

Damn Small Linux is een bootable Linux-live-cd gebaseerd op de Linux distributies van Knoppix en Debian. Het besturingsysteem wordt ontwikkeld met de gedachte om een compacte distributie beschikbaar te stellen die kleiner is dan vijftig megabyte. DSL wordt geleverd met een groot aantal programma's met onder andere een mediaspeler, tekstverwerker, webserversoftware en verschillende internetapplicaties. De ontwikkelaars hebben versie 3.0.1 uitgebracht met de volgende aankondiging:

Version 3.0.1:

The only difference with this release and 3.0 is that unionfs is an option, and not set by default. We are currently working on the incompatibility of our Firefox build with unionfs.

Version 3.0:

We have lots of new under the hood goodness in this release including the very cool sshfs and the new UNC extension which takes full advantage of unionfs to minimize system requirements. We also tracked down and killed several bugs. Thank you Robert for all your hard work on this release, and thank you to the community for all your suggestions and refinements.

• New DSL now boots to unionfs.
• New boot option "legacy" to boot without unionfs.
• Moved MyDSL local extension loading functionality from emelfm to MyDSL desktop icon.

Ja dat kan, je kunt em zelfs vanuit een batch file vanuit windows laden.

Die 2e optie ziet er al beter uit, maar wat een achterlijke toeren moet je uithalen om het voor elkaar te krijgen
Je kan een usbstick van ze kopen (128 mb) voor 8 dollar, of zelf gaan klooien.
Dit noemen ze zelf een oplossing:

How Do I Install to a USB Pendrive?

First, boot up your computer from the DSL livecd, frugal, or USB-frugal. Note that it is not possible to do a USB install, or any other kind of install from a DSL Embedded system.

In the Fluxbox menu, go Apps >> Tools >> Install to USB Pendrive and choose either USB-ZIP emulation or USB-HDD emulation, depending on what is supported by your computer's bios.

Damn Small heb ik altijd al een handige distro gevonden om problemen op te lossen. Hardwareproblemen zijn bijna altijd uit te sluiten als Damn Small goed werkt. En hij's in no-time binnen natuurlijk.
