Software-update: xMule 1.12.1

Voor het uitwisselen van bestanden kan onder andere gebruik worden gemaakt van het eDonkey-netwerk. Naast de originele client, eDonkey2000, werd er ook een open source client ontwikkeld met de pakkende naam eMule. Laatst genoemde is alleen beschikbaar voor het Windows-platform daarom is men destijds begonnen met LMule voor het Linux-platform. De code was echter niet zo porteerbaar als men hoopte vandaar dat men xMule heeft ontwikkeld met ondersteuning voor FreeBSD, Linux, MacOS X, Solaris en Windows. Het ontwikkelteam heeft versie 1.12.1 uitgegeven met de volgende aankondiging:

This release focuses mostly on refactoring the 1.12 tree. xMule uses my DynamicPreferences more fully with the end result being a more robust app that uses less memory and is less prone to crash. Because list column sorting/resizing code has changed, you may find a recurrence of the "disappearing columns" bug, especially on your first launch of this version. Merely right-click on the typically-grey area where column headers normally would be and unhide/resize the columns you desire.

Below are attached two binary packages, one against wxGTK 2.4.3 (most reliable results) and one against wxGTK 2.6.2 (improved performance). Unlike past binary packages, this uses a new release system which theoretically should work on any Linux distribution, so long as you have libstdc++v6 (e.g. gcc 3.4+) and GTK 2.6.x installed. Simply download the file, set its execute flags (chmod 0755) and run the installer.

Werkt xMule beter dan aMule, of komen ze beiden op hetzelfde neer?

Volgens mij zit er zeer weinig verschil tussen. Ik gebruik altijd aMule maar ik zal deze ook es proberen. Het is zo jammer dat het eDonkey netwerk zo mega sloom is want er is een zeer hoog aanbod.

Het eDonkey-netwerk kan snel zijn, alleen, hiervoor moet je een hoop uploaden. De queue's werken met credits, dus hoe meer je upload naar een bepaalde client, hoe sneller je door de queue gaat...

Groot nadeel is wel dat er een hoop gemodde clients zijn, met leech-hacks of die clients met dezelfde mod voorrang geven

Ik vond zelf xMule (jaar geleden) nogal buggy en gebruik daarom tegenwoordig (nog steeds) aMule, en dat werkt vrijwel probleemloos...

requests, adding new features, and debugging their new code (which is
statistically always more error-prone than revised code). As such, aMule started
as a verbatim copy of xMule as of 2003-08-22 by a non-xMule developer.

In order to save time and inherrent struggles with the ever-changing eMule
protocol, they have tended to copy verbatim large percentages of eMule code over
the last 9 months (3/4 of their history) after largely stopping the same
practice of copying with xMule at around June of 2004. Because of its

to have stable/unstable release trees, part-time code contributors are more
