Geeft aan of de printer in kleur kan afdrukken of alleen in zwart-wit (monochroom). Kleurenprinters gebruiken meerdere cartridges (cyaan, magenta, geel, zwart). Zwart-wit printers gebruiken alleen een zwarte cartridge en zijn vaak goedkoper in gebruik voor tekstdocumenten.
